Fast Track Module Based Colonoscopy Training Programme for Surgical Trainees at North Jutland Surgical Departments

ABSTRACT: Specially educated trainers will be responsible for colonoscopy training of junior doctors. The educated trainers will have attended seminars held by Valori et al. The following fast track colonoscopy training program for junior doctors will consist of: 1) Endoscopy simulation training and theory course 2) supervised and partly supervised lower endoscopy. 3) Directly observed practical skills according graded by MCSAT (Mayo Clinical Skills Assessment Tool) .

We collected from a patient diagnosed with active EoE (≥15 eosinophils/hpf), according to consensus guidelines, using standard endoscopy procedures, then we try to selectively obtain the proteome from the discrete lgG4+ lesions of the biopsy sections by AutoSTOMP, and try to link the lesion structure with its specially skewed constituents comparing to the rest of the tissue.

Vastus lateralis biopsies from healthy and COPD patients before and after 8 weeks of exercise training

Project description:Study the training exercise effects in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients and aged-matched healthy individuals. Skeletal muscle biopsies from 9 stable COPD patients with normal fat free mass index (FFMI, 21Kg/m2) (COPDN), 6 COPD patients with low FFMI (16Kg/m2) (COPL), and 12 healthy sedentary subjects (FFMI 21Kg/m2) before and after 8 weeks of a supervised endurance exercise program were analyzed. Samples were collected from open biopsies from the musculus vastus lateralis of COPD patients and healthy individuals before and after 8 weeks of exercise training. Constant-work rate exercise at 70% of pre-training Watts peak (Wpeak) (CardiO2 cycle Medical Graphics Corporation, USA) was carried out before and after 8 weeks of supervised interval training with a cycloergometer until pre-training endurance time exhaustion. Measurements before and after training were obtained at isowork-rate and iso-time.

Building Capacity for Screening & Early Diagnosis of Colorectal Cancer Through a Comprehensive Colonoscopy Training Program in Nigeria

Project description:This protocol seeks to develop a colonoscopy training program in Nigeria in order to increase the number of health care providers proficient in colonoscopy. The goal is to improve capacity for screening and early diagnosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) by training and expanding the healthcare workforce that is competent in endoscopy techniques. The project has three components, a needs assessment, simulation training, and training on live patients. The first part of this project determines the number of providers and endoscopy procedures currently performed in Nigeria, as well as patient access to facilities that have colonoscopy capabilities, through a mixed methods approach. Surveys, focus in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, and use geographic information system (GIS) modeling technology will be employed to perform a needs assessment. The second component of this project investigates whether a locally developed low fidelity (LF) simulation colonoscopy training model is an effective teaching, training, and assessment tool for skill acquisition and confidence compared to a high-fidelity (HF) colonoscopy model. The third component of this project is training healthcare providers on real patients who have an indication for colonoscopy. This project seeks to build capacity for endoscopy services in order to increase capacity for screening and early diagnosis of CRC. At the end of the project, it is expected the number of providers trained to perform colonoscopy in a resource limited setting like Nigeria will increase.

Dynamics of the human skeletal muscle transcriptome in response to exercise training - part 2

Project description:In the present study 23 participants completed three months of supervised aerobic exercise training of one leg (training period 1) followed by 9 months of rest before 12 of the participants completed a second exercise training period (training period 2) of three months of both legs. Skeletal muscle biopsies have been collected before and after the training periods. We have compared trained leg with untrained leg and studied gene and isoform expression. Additional samples included in this study has been previously submitted (GEO accession number GSE58387 and GSE60590).

Vastus lateralis biopsies from healthy and COPD patients before and after 3 weeks of endurance training

Project description:Study the effects of 3 weeks training exercise in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients and healthy individuals. Skeletal muscle biopsies of 5 COPD patients (aged 63±2 year) and 3 age-matched healthy individuals were studied before and after 3 weeks of a supervised endurance training program. Samples were collected from open muscle biopsies of the vastus lateralis of 5 COPD patients and 3 age-matched healthy individuals before and after 3 weeks of a supervised endurance training program. Patients and controls underwent an endurance exercise program on a cycloergometer 5 days a week for three consecutive weeks. One 1 h session/day was established in all subjects, with effective exercise periods of at least 30 min in each case.
