Project description:Diabetic retinopathy is one of the leading causes of blindness in diabetic patients. Emerging evidence suggests that retinal neurodegeneration is an early event in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy, but the underlying causes of neuronal loss are unknown. To unravel potential mechanisms underlying early retinal neurodegeneration in diabetic retinopathy, a gene expression profiling study was undertaken to compare the gene expression in retinas of 8-week db/db diabetic mice with that of lean non-diabetic littermates.

Comparison of enchondromas with controls (growth plate and cartilage)

Project description:Ollier disease is a rare, non-hereditary disorder which is characterized by the presence of multiple enchondromas (EC), benign cartilaginous neoplasms arising within the medulla of the bone, with an asymmetric distribution. The risk of malignant transformation towards central chondrosarcoma (CS) is increased up to 35%. The etiology of Ollier disease is unknown. We therefore undertook genome-wide expression profiling using Illumina Beadarray v3.0 for 7 enchondromas of 6 patients and compared them with controls in order to find differentially expressed genes in these benign tumors. The goal of this study was to find differentially expressed genes between enchondromas, a benign cartilage forming tumor occuring in the metaphyses of bone, and controls. We have used samples of normal growth plate and articular cartilage as the controls. Seven enchondromas were compared to two growth plate and four cartilage samples.

Microarray analysis of developing mouse cortex reveals regulation of ribosomal protein mRNAs throughout development

Project description:Neocortical development is spatiotemporally regulated by exogenous factors, but the mechanism regulating timed specificity of neocortical mRNA translation is unknown. We find that active mRNA translation sites (polysomes) contain ribosomal protein subsets that undergo dynamic spatiotemporal rearrangements during mouse neocortical development. Two samples of cortext total RNA each from four embryonic time points were collected.

Different expressed genes in epithelium and stromal of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Project description:To identify the genes differently expressed in the epithelium and the stromal of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), we collect the epithelium and the stromal from the patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia by laser micro-dissection. And then, Affymetrix HG-U133_Plus_2 gene-chip was used to detect and compare the expression level of genes. To find which genes are most abundantly expressed in epithelium and stromal and what is the role of these genes in the pathogenesis of BPH.
