Plantaricin BM-1, a class IIa bacteriocin produced by <i>Lactobacillus plantarum</i> BM-1, shows obvious antibacterial activity against <i>Escherichia coli</i>. However, the mechanism underlying the action of class IIa bacteriocins against gram-negative bacteria remains to be explored.
