Microbial imbalance in inflammatory bowel disease patients at different taxonomic levels
Ontology highlight
ABSTRACT: We have performed 16S sequencing experiment on faecal samples obtained from 30 individuals (9 Crohn's disease patients, 11 ulcerative colitis (UC) patients and 10 healthy volunteers). In this study, we examined the imbalance in the gut microbiota in IBD patients compared to healthy volunteers. We find that the gut microbiota of IBD patients is less biodiverse than healthy individuals. Also, the changes are mainly in 4 most abundant phyla including Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria and Proteobacteria.
