Liquid cultures of E. coli were grown at 27, 32, 37, 42 degrees Celsius in Tryptone Broth (TB) media in the orbital shaker at 250rpm and harvested by centrifugation at mid-exponential phase (OD600=0.6).

The results were referenced to a equimolar mixture of both strains grown at 29 degrees Celsius
