Project description:Enteropathogenic Yersinia enterocolitica and Yersinia pseudotuberculosis share many traits in terms of infections they cause, but their epidemiology and ecology seem to differ in many ways. Pigs are the only known reservoir for Y. enterocolitica 4/O:3 strains while Y. pseudotuberculosis strains have been isolated from variety of sources including fresh vegetables and wild animals. A comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) analysis with a DNA microarray based on three Yersinia enterocolitica and four Yersinia pseudotuberculosis genomes was conducted to shed light on genomic differences between the enteropathogenic Yersinia. In total 99 strains isolated from various sources were hybridized and analyzed.

Project description:HighRes-CGH arrays that utilize ≈385,000 distinct oligonucleotide probes to cover chromosome 22 at 85 bp resolution (tiling path step size) were designed and synthesized as previously described (Urban et al., Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2006;103(12):4534-9; see also GSE4240 record). Comparative genome hybridization was performed against an Affymetrix custom microarray designed to include 2,661 (97%) chromosomal and 17 (85%) plasmid CDSs predicted to occur in Lb. casei ATCC 334, as well as all predicted CDSs in the draft Lb. helveticus CNRZ 32 genome. CDSs that were not included in the microarray design were all transposase-encoding genes.
Project description:Since Japanese quail and chicken belong to the same order Galliforms, DNA sequence of both species are highly conserved and proved to be applicable for various analyses each other. Quail are commonly used to address physiological questions for reasons of economy. To test whether chicken microarrays are useful to quail samples, we compared hybridization signals of chicken and quail genomic DNA on Affymetrix chicken genome array.
