Project description:A traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, containing Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bunge, Aconitum wilsonii Stapf ex Veitch, Curcuma longa L., and Radix ophiopogonis (AACO), has clinically proven therapeutic value for the treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF). In this study, we explored the potential pharmacological mechanism underlying the activity of the AACO formula against CHF.

Project description:Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that has turned up as pandemic dimensions all over the world. In China, some traditional Chinese herbal formulas have enjoyed a high reputation in T2DM treatment for centuries. And ShenQi compound (SQC), a formula has been performed on T2DM clinical therapeutics in China for many years, deserve to study in depth. Gene microarray experiments were performed to explore the molecular mechanism of SQC treatment. In addition, a western medicine, metformin was employed as a comparison.
Project description:Traditional Chinese medicines (TCM), usually composed of a mixture of components, may simultaneously target multiple genes/pathways and thus achieve superior efficacy for complex diseases such as cancer. To identify novel mechanisms of action and potential health benefits for a TCM formula Si-Wu-Tang (SWT) widely used for women’s health, we obtained the DNA microarray expression profiles for SWT, its active component ferulic acid, and estradiol in human breast cancer cell line MCF-7 and analyzed the gene expression signatures associated with each treatment using the “Connectivity Map” (cMAP). This study indicates that DNA microarray profiling analysis and cMAP data mining provide a powerful approach to discover unknown mechanisms of actions and identify potential new health benefits for TCM.

Project description:In the study, patients with type 2 diabetes with obesity and hyperlipidemia were treated by traditional Chinese medicine Jiangtang Tiaozhi Prescription of 24 weeks, we chosed 6 effective cases, 6 invalid cases and 6 health people as control to analysis the molecular mechanism of TCM treatment. According to the research of LncRNA microarray, GO analysis, Pathway analysis, we found out the target LncRNAs, as well as their associated mRNAs were contribute to the good outcome of Jiangtang Tiaozhi Formula. Then we expand to 12 cases in each group for qPCR validation.
Project description:RSV, a leading cause of severe respiratory illnesses in vulnerable populations, lacks effective, affordable treatments for pediatric use. The potential of traditional Chinese medicine for relieving viral symptoms prompted this investigation into Xuanfei Formula (XFF) as an anti-RSV agent. This study employed H&E staining, cytokine profiling, and RSV titer quantification in BALB/c mice to evaluate the impact of XFF on RSV infection. Strikingly, immediate post-treatment observation showed a precipitous drop in both serum pro-inflammatory cytokine levels and pulmonary RSV-N gene copies in comparison to infected controls, suggesting XFF’s direct anti-RSV action. Transcriptome analyses were used to pinpointed the underlying mechanism behind formula’s immune-independent anti-RSV, a leading cause of severe respiratory illnesses in vulnerable populations, lacks effective, affordable treatments for pediatric use. Project description:RATIONALE: Hand foot syndrome may be treated or reduced by soaking Traditional Chinese Medicine Formula LC09 in patients receiving capecitabine for colorectal and/or breast cancer.
PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying soaking Traditional Chinese Medicine Formula LC09 to see how well they work compared to placebos in preventing hand-foot syndrome in patients who are receiving capecitabine for colorectal or breast cancer.
Project description:Bazi Bushen (BZBS), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been proven effective for the treatment in age-related disease models. However, its role in health improvement during the aging process has not yet been explored. In the present study, we investigated the anti-aging effect of BZBS in nature aging mice through Frailty Index assessment, liver DNA methylome, and epigenetic age estimation. Highly differentiated DNA methylation was presented between the young and aged mice, which was mainly concentrated in the promoter region. BZBS treatment protected mice from age-associated DNA methylation changes so that rejuvenated epigenetic age. This result was consistent with the phenotypic observations, including enhanced memory and muscle endurance, less liver lesions, and lower frailty score. Aging-related database screen together with KEGG analysis suggested that methylation-targeted genes upon BZBS treatment were involved in several essential pathways including oxidation-reduction processes, genome stability, MAPK signaling, and inflammation. Up regulation of key effectors in Sirt3-Foxo1 and DNA repair signaling were confirmed. Finally, in silico analysis of the formula revealed anti-aging properties of Renshen, Shengdihuang, Yinyanghuo, and Gouqizi, as well as their potential methylation-regulatory functions. In sum, our work reports the first anti-aging effects of Traditional Chinese Medicine via epigenetic mechanism, thus providing potential life prolonging opportunities.
