Project description:We used 10X scRNA-Seq to investigate gene expression dynamics and cell type changes in four turbot immuno-organs (gill, head kidney, posterior intestine and spleen) during infection. In total, 103,055 high quality leukocytes were characterized. Our results not only provide a useful resource for the study of fish immune system, but also uncover the origins of adaptive immunity throughout vertebrate evolution.

Fish Liver Immune Response LC-MSMS

Project description:High-throughput proteomics was used to determine the role of the fish liver in defense responses to bacterial infection, done using a rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) model following infection with Aeromonas salmonicida, the causative agent of furunculosis. The vertebrate liver has multifaceted roles in innate immunity, metabolism, and growth; we hypothesize this tissue serves a dual function in supporting host defense in parallel to metabolic adjustments that promote effective immune function. While past studies have reported mRNA responses to A. salmonicida in salmonids, the impact of bacterial infectionon the liver proteome remains uncharacterized in fish.

Transcriptome profiling analysis of bacterial challenged Lateolabrax japonicus reveals deep insight into the immune-relevant genes in marine fish (RNA-seq)

Project description:We report the application of Solexa/IlluminaM-bM-^@M-^Ys RNA-seq sequencing approaches for transcriptome in a marine fish under different conditions (bacterial- and mock-challenged conditions). By obtaining over four billion bases of sequence from the cDNA, we generated 169,950 none-redundant consensus sequences, from which 44842 functional transcripts with complete or various length of encoding regions were identified. More than 52% of these transcripts could be enriched in approximately 219 known metabolic or signaling pathways, among of which 2673 transcripts were found to be associated with immune-relevant genes. Besides, about 8% of the transcripts seemed fish-specific genes that have never been described before. This study provides a framework for the application of comprehensive chromatin profiling towards characterization of diverse mammalian cell populations. Our study provided a global survey of the gene activities in host defense against bacterial infection in a non-model marine fish.
