Project description:Transcriptional profiling of larval epidermis at specific markings were examined using 11 developmental stages. Gene expression level was compared between mimetic white, cryptic thorax, and cryptic abdomen vs. mimetic black, cryptic eyespot, and cryptic V-shaped markings in all stages. For initial screening of marking-specific genes, 6 developmental stages for mimetic pattern, and 5 developmental stages for cryptic pattern was used. Mimetic white, cryptic thorax, and cryptic abdomen were independently labelled with Cyanine 3-CTP (Cy3), and mimetic black, cryptic eyespot, and cryptic V-shaped markings were independently labelled with Cyanine 5-CTP (Cy5) in all stages.

Project description:Black rot, caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc) is one of the most devastating diseases of cruciferous crops worldwide. The pathogen infects and multiplies in plant vascular tissues and, as the disease progresses, the veins of infected tissues turn black and characteristic V-shaped lesions appear along the margins of leaves.The aim of this work is to identify differentially expressed genes from Brassica oleracea during early infection by Xcc, in an attempt to identify proteins related to resistance.

Comparison of transcriptomic profiles in natural populations of rodents (house mouse and black rat) along invasion routes in Senegal

Project description:We compared gene expression proﬁles between anciently and recently established populations of two major invading species, the black rat Rattus rattus and the house mouse Mus musculus musculus, in Senegal. Transcriptome analyses revealed respectively 364 and 83 differentially expressed genes along the mouse and rat invasion routes. Among them, 10 and 15% were annotated with functions related to immunity. All immune-related genes detected along the mouse invasion route were over-expressed at the invasion front. Genes of the complement activation pathway were over-represented. Results were less straightforward when considering the black rat. No particular immune pathway was over-represented. In conclusion, we revealed changes in transcriptomic profiles along invasion routes. Patterns differed between invaders. They could potentially be driven by increased infection risks at invasion front for the house mouse and trade-offs between immune responses for the black rat. Our results provide a first step in identifying the immune ecoevolutionary processes potentially involved in invasion success.

Project description:Black men die more often of prostate cancer (PC) yet, interestingly, may derive greater survival benefits from immunotherapy. Since no signatures of immune-responsiveness exist for PC, we explored race-based immune-profiles to identify vulnerabilities. Black men have increases in plasma cell infiltrate and associated augmented NK cell and IgG activity. These findings are associated with improved survival and nominate plasma cells as drivers of PC immune-responsiveness.
