Koch2021 - Phospholamban_network


ABSTRACT: Ordinary differential equation model of the micropeptide phospholamban and the control of its phosphorylation status at serine 16 in the context of beta-adrenergic stimulation. This model is the first detailed kinetic model of the phospholamban subnetwork of the beta-adrenergic signaling pathway and (to the authors' knowledge) the very first to include phospholamban pentamers. Simulations and model analyses reveal interesting nonlinear dynamics (response delays) and steady-state behavior (bistability) which could serve as molecular noise-filters to prevent the occurence of cardiac arrhythmias.
