Genome-wide analysis of adult adrenocortical cells gene expression after 48 h ACTH treatment

ABSTRACT: Analysis of ACTH-regulation on adrenocortical cells at gene expression level. The hypothesis tested in the present study was that ACTH increases chronic cell growth and steroidogenesis in adrenal glands by changing the gene expression profile. Results provide important information of the response of adrenocortical cells gene expression to chronic ACTH treatment. Total RNA obtained from primary cultured adult adrenal cells subjected to 48 hours in vitro treatment of ACTH compared to untreated control cell.

The adrenal glands are the primary source of minerocorticoids, glucocorticoids, and the so-called adrenal androgens. Under physiological conditions, cortisol and adrenal androgen synthesis are controlled primarily by ACTH. Although it has been established that ACTH can stimulate steroidogenesis, the effects of ACTH on overall gene expression in human adrenal cells have not been established. In this study, we defined the effects of chronic ACTH treatment on global gene expression in primary cultu  ...[more]
