Transcription profiling of in rat brains 6-48 hours after MCAO stroke incudtion with and without FK506 drug treatment

ABSTRACT: Analysis of changes in gene expression induced by a transient (90') middle cerebral artery occulsion, at several time points post stroke induction, with the effect of a treatment with the drug FK506 studied at a single time point.

ORGANISM(S): Rattus norvegicus

DISEASE(S): normal

Although, astrocytes are more resistant than neurons to ischemic injury, astrocyte death has been demonstrated in animal models of brain ischemia. Astrocytes death after ischemia/reperfusion may strongly affect neuronal survival because of the absence of their trophic and metabolic support to neurons, and astrocytic glutamate uptake. Early signals involved in astrocytes death are poorly understood. We demonstrated enhanced and mostly cytoplasmic activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinas  ...[more]
