Transcription Profiling of Human Aortic Endothelial Cells After Treatment with Interferon-Alpha


ABSTRACT: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Interferon-response genes have been associated with endothelial dysfunction in SLE patients. The aim of this study is to identify the effects of IFN-alpha on human endothelial cells in order to determine whether IFN-alpha can directly activate the endothelium.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. The etiopathogenesis of premature CVD is not fully understood, but recently interferon-alpha (IFNα) has been implicated as a contributing factor.
