Genotyping of twenty Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains

ABSTRACT: 20 P. aeruginosa strains were genotyped using a custom spotted oligo array (Ausubel P. aruginosa genotyping 4.8K v1), which included primarily oligos for genes present in strain PA14 but absent in PAO1, and oligos for genes present in PAO1 but absent in PA14 (as well as controls).

ORGANISM(S): Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Background
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a ubiquitous environmental bacterium and an important opportunistic human pathogen. Generally, the acquisition of genes in the form of pathogenicity islands distinguishes pathogenic isolates from nonpathogens. We therefore sequenced a highly virulent strain of P. aeruginosa, PA14, and compared it with a previously sequenced (and less pathogenic) strain, PAO1, to identify novel virulence genes.
Results
The PA14 and PAO1 genomes are remarkably si ...[more]
