Transcription profiling of adipose tissue and body wall muscle from wild type and FOX-21/25 null Drosophila larvae after starvation or normal feeding

ABSTRACT: Gene regulation in response to nutrient deprivation. Drosophila larvae of control w1118 or FOXO-21/25 null genotypes were grown to early 3rd instar and then either starved for 18h on PBS/agarose or grown on normal food. Adipose tissue (fat body) and muscle (body wall muscle) were dissected out, RNA extracted, and microarray analysis performed comparing starved to non-starved samples.

ORGANISM(S): Drosophila melanogaster

Cell metabolism 20080101 1

Animals use the insulin/TOR signaling pathway to mediate their response to fluctuations in nutrient availability. Energy and amino acids are monitored at the single-cell level via the TOR branch of the pathway and systemically via insulin signaling to regulate cellular growth and metabolism. Using a combination of genetics, expression profiling, and chromatin immunoprecipitation, we examine nutritional control of gene expression and identify the transcription factor Myc as an important mediator  ...[more]
