Regulatory T cells (T<sub>reg</sub>) are critical players of immune tolerance that develop in the thymus via two distinct developmental pathways involving CD25<sup>+</sup>Foxp3<sup>-</sup> and CD25<sup>-</sup>Foxp3<sup>lo</sup> precursors.
