The serine/threonine kinase Akt regulates cellular survival, proliferation, gene transcription, protein translation, metabolism, and differentiation. Although Akt substrates are found throughout the cell, activated Akt normally accumulates in the nucleus, suggesting that biologically relevant targets are located there.
