Borane Complexes of the H(3)PO(2) P(III) Tautomer: Useful Phosphinate Equivalents.

ABSTRACT: The preparation and reactivity of novel (R(1)O)(R(2)O)P(BH(3))H [R(1), R(2) = Et, TIPS] synthons is investigated. The direct alkylation of these compounds with lithium hexamethyldisilazide (LiHMDS) and various electrophiles, provided new series of phosphonite-borane complexes, which can be converted into H-phosphinates and boranophosphonates.

Project description:The mesomeric betaine imidazolium-1-ylphenolate forms a borane adduct with tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane by coordination with the phenolate oxygen, whereas its NHC tautomer 1-(2-phenol)imidazol-2-ylidene reacts with (triphenylphosphine)gold(I) chloride to give the cationic NHC complex [Au(NHC)2][Cl] by coordination with the carbene carbon atom. The anionic N-heterocyclic carbene 1-(2-phenolate)imidazol-2-ylidene gives the complexes [K][Au(NHC-)2], [Rh(NHC-)3] and [Ni(NHC-)2], respectively. Results of four single crystal analyses are presented.

Discrete nanomolecular polyhedral borane scaffold supporting multiple gadolinium(III) complexes as a high performance MRI contrast agent.

Project description:An icosahedral closo-B(12)(2-) scaffold supports 12 copies of Gd(3+)-chelate held in close proximity with each other by suitable linkers which employ azide-alkyne click chemistry. This design is the first member of a new class of polyfunctional MRI contrast agents carrying a high payload of Gd(3+)-chelate in a sterically constrained configuration. The resulting contrast agent shows higher relaxivity values at high magnetic fields. MRI contrast agents currently in use are not as effective in this regard, presumably due to a lack of steric constraint of gadolinium centers and lower water exchange rates. In vivo MRI studies in mice show excellent contrast enhancement even at one-seventh of the safe clinical dose (0.04 mmol Gd/kg) for up to a 1 h exposure.

Coinage Metal Complexes of the Carbenic Tautomer of a Conjugated Mesomeric Betaine Akin to Nitron.

Project description:This study was motivated by our recent observation that the analytical reagent Nitron (2) is an "instant carbene", whose reaction with coinage metal salts MX afforded complexes of its carbenic tautomer 1,4-diphenyl-3-phenylamino-1,2,4-triazol-5-ylidene (2'). Our aim was to establish an alkyl homologue of 2 in order to achieve a carbenic tautomer of higher donicity. For this purpose 1-tert-butyl-4-methyl-1,2,4-triazol-4-ium-3-tert-butylaminide (6) was synthesized. Its reactions with MX afforded complexes of the carbenic tautomer 1-tert-butyl-3-tert-butylamino-4-methyl-1,2,4-triazol-5-ylidene (6'). With a stoichiometric ratio of 1:1 complexes of the type [MX(6')] were obtained. A ratio of 2:1 furnished complexes of the type [MX(6')?] or [M(6')?]X. 6' is a better ?-donor and less electrophilic than 2' according to NMR spectroscopic data of 6H[BF?] and 6' = Se, respectively, and IR spectroscopic data of [RhCl(6')(CO)?] confirm that its net electron donor capacity is superior to that of 2'. A comparison of the complexes of 2' and 6' reveals two pronounced structural differences. [CuX(6')?] (X = Cl, Br) exhibit more acute C?Cu?C bond angles than [CuX(2')?]. In contrast to [CuCl(2')], [CuCl(6')] aggregates through Cu···Cu contacts of ca. 2.87 Å, compatible with cuprophilic interactions. These differences may be explained by the complementary steric requirements of the t-Bu and the Me substituent of 6'.

Osmium(IV) complexes with 1H- and 2H-indazoles: tautomer identity versus spectroscopic properties and antiproliferative activity.

Project description:A one-pot synthesis of osmium(IV) complexes with two different tautomers of indazole, 1H-indazole and 2H-indazole, namely (H(2)ind)[Os(IV)Cl(5)(2H-ind)] (1) and (H(2)ind)[Os(IV)Cl(5)(1H-ind)] (2) is reported. Both compounds have been comprehensively characterized by NMR spectroscopy, ESI (electrospray ionization) mass spectrometry, electronic absorption spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and tested for antiproliferative activity in vitro in three human cancer cell lines, CH1 (ovarian carcinoma), A549 (non-small cell lung cancer) and SW480 (colon carcinoma), as well as in vivo in a Hep3B SCID mouse xeno-transplantation model. 2H-Indazole tautomer stabilization in 1 has been confirmed by X-ray diffraction.

Phosphonate–phosphinate rearrangement.

Project description:LiTMP metalated dimethyl N-Boc-phosphoramidates derived from 1-phenylethylamine and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalen-1-ylamine highly selectively at the CH3O group to generate short-lived oxymethyllithiums. These isomerized to diastereomeric hydroxymethylphosphonamidates (phosphate–phosphonate rearrangement). However, s-BuLi converted the dimethyl N-Boc-phosphoramidate derived from 1-phenylethylamine to the N-Boc ?-aminophosphonate preferentially. Only s-BuLi deprotonated dimethyl hydroxymethylphosphonamidates at the benzylic position and dimethyl N-Boc ?-aminophosphonates at the CH3O group to induce phosphonate–phosphinate rearrangements. In the former case, the migration of the phosphorus substituent from the nitrogen to the carbon atom followed a retentive course with some racemization because of the involvement of a benzyllithium as an intermediate.

Project description:The title compound, K(2)Sm(MoO(4))(PO(4)), has been prepared under atmospheric conditions using a high temperature solution growth (HTSG) method. The structure of K(2)Sm(MoO(4))(PO(4)) is isotypic with other A(2)M(MoO(4))(PO(4)) compounds, where A = Na or K, and M = trivalent rare earth cation. It can be described as being built up from two-dimensional anionic layers with composition [Sm(MoO(4))(PO(4))](2-) that are stacked along the c axis and are inter-connected by K(+) cations which are in an eightfold coordination by O atoms. The SmO(8), MoO(4) and PO(4) polyhedra exhibit 2 symmetry.

Oligophosphine-thiocyanate Copper(I) and Silver(I) Complexes and Their Borane Derivatives Showing Delayed Fluorescence.

Project description:The series of chelating phosphine ligands, which contain bidentate P2 (bis[(2-diphenylphosphino)phenyl] ether, DPEphos; 4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)-9,9-dimethylxanthene, Xantphos; 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene, dppb), tridentate P3 (bis(2-diphenylphosphinophenyl)phenylphosphine), and tetradentate P4 (tris(2-diphenylphosphino)phenylphosphine) ligands, was used for the preparation of the corresponding dinuclear [M(μ2-SCN)P2]2 (M = Cu, 1, 3, 5; M = Ag, 2, 4, 6) and mononuclear [CuNCS(P3/P4)] (7, 9) and [AgSCN(P3/P4)] (8, 10) complexes. The reactions of P4 with silver salts in a 1:2 molar ratio produce tetranuclear clusters [Ag2(μ3-SCN)(t-SCN)(P4)]2 (11) and [Ag2(μ3-SCN)(P4)]22+ (12). Complexes 7-11 bearing terminally coordinated SCN ligands were efficiently converted into derivatives 13-17 with the weakly coordinating -SCN:B(C6F5)3 isothiocyanatoborate ligand. Compounds 1 and 5-17 exhibit thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) behavior in the solid state. The excited states of thiocyanate species are dominated by the ligand to ligand SCN → π(phosphine) charge transfer transitions mixed with a variable contribution of MLCT. The boronation of SCN groups changes the nature of both the S1 and T1 states to (L + M)LCT d,p(M, P) → π(phosphine). The localization of the excited states on the aromatic systems of the phosphine ligands determines a wide range of luminescence energies achieved for the title complexes (λem varies from 448 nm for 1 to 630 nm for 10c). The emission of compounds 10 and 15, based on the P4 ligand, strongly depends on the solid-state packing (λem = 505 and 625 nm for two crystalline forms of 15), which affects structural reorganizations accompanying the formation of electronically excited states.
