ABSTRACT: Redetermination of the structure of the title compound, [Ge(SnMe(3))(4)] or [GeSn(4)(CH(3))(12)], previously refined from powder diffraction data only [Dinnebier, Bernatowicz, Helluy, Sebald, Wunschel, Fitch & van Smaalen et al. (2002 ▶). Acta Cryst. B58, 52-61], confirms that four bulky trimethyl-stannyl ligands surround the central Ge atom (site symmetry 1) in a tetra-hedral coordination.

Project description:The title compounds Si(C4H5O)4 (1) and Ge(C4H5O)4 (2) are di-hydro-furyl compounds of silicon and germanium and are useful building blocks for the functionalization of these elements. Both structures crystallize in space group P21/n in the monoclinic crystal system with two mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit: the Si and Ge atoms adopt slightly distorted tetra-hedral geometries, while the C4H5O moieties exhibit shallow envelope conformations. Through a Hirshfeld surface analysis of the structures, inter-actions within the crystal packing could be elucidated: compound 1 features a polymeric chain in the (101) plane via C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds whereas in 2 C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds create a polymeric chain in the (010) plane.

Project description:The crystal structure of the tetra-nuclear title compound, [Cu4(C12H15NO5)4(H2O)4], has been previously reported by Back, Oliveira, Canabarro & Iglesias [Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. (2015), 641, 941-947], based on room-temperature data. In the previously published structure, no standard uncertainties are recorded for the deprotonated hy-droxy-methyl group and water mol-ecule O atoms coordinating to the metal atom indicating that they were not refined; furthermore, the H atoms of some OH groups and water mol-ecules have not been positioned accurately. Since the current structure was determined at a lower temperature, all atoms, including the H atoms of these hy-droxy groups and the water mol-ecule, have been determined more accurately resulting in improved standard uncertainties in the bond lengths and angles. Diffraction data were collected at 200 K, rather than the more usual 100 K, due to apparent disordering at lower temperatures. In addition, it is now possible to report intra- and inter-molecular O-H⋯O inter-actions. In the title complex molecule, which has crystallographic -4 symmetry, the Cu(II) ions are coordinated by the tridentate Schiff base ligands and water mol-ecules, forming a tetra-nuclear Cu4O4 cubane-like core. The Cu(II) ion adopts a CuNO5 elongated octa-hedral environment. The coordination environment of Cu(II) at 200 K displays a small contraction of the Cu-N/O bonds, compared with the room-temperature structure. In the crystal lattice, the neutral clusters are linked by inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a one-dimensional hydrogen-bonding network propagating along the b axis.

Redetermination of diaqua-tetra-kis-(dimethyl-formamide-κO)magnesium dichloride.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, [Mg(C(3)H(7)NO)(4)(H(2)O)(2)]Cl(2), in which the Mg ion lies on a crystallographic inversion centre, confirms that of the previous room-temperature study [Pavanello et al. (1995 ▶). Main Group Met. Chem.18, 9-19]. This redetermination at 113 K has improved geometry precision by almost an order of magnitude [e.g. Mg-O(w) (w = water) distances = 2.094 (4) and 2.0899 (7) Å in the old and new structures, respectively] and allowed the water H atoms to be located and their positions refined. In the crystal, O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds between the two aqua ligands of the complex mol-ecule and neighboring chloride counter-anions generate supra-molecular chains propagating along [010]. The dicationic [Mg(DMF)(4)(H(2)O)(2)] unit (DMF is dimethyl-formamide) adopts a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry in which the Mg atom is coordinated by four DMF O atoms in a pseudo-tetra-gonal arrangement and two trans aqua ligands.

Redetermination of tetra-kis(N,N-diethyl-dithio-carbamato)tin(IV).

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, [Sn(C(5)H(10)NS(2))(4)], was originally determined by Harreld & Schlemper [Acta Cryst. (1971), B27, 1964-1969] using intensity data estimated from Weissenberg films. In comparison with the previous refinement, the current redetermination reveals anisotropic displacement parameters for all non-H atoms, localization of the H atoms, and higher precision of lattice parameters and inter-atomic distances. The complex features a distorted S(6) octa-hedral coordination geometry for tin and a cis disposition of the monodentate dithio-carbamate ligands.

Tetra-kis(2,3,5,5-tetra-methyl-hexen-2-yl)silane.

Project description:In the title compound, C40H76Si, the Si atom is located on a special position of site symmetry -4. Thus, there is just a quarter of a mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The C=C double bonds exhibit a trans configuration. The Si atom and the tert-butyl group are located on the same side of the plane formed by the C=C double bond and its four substituents. The crystal packing shows no short contacts between the mol-ecules and despite the low crystal density (0.980 Mg m(-3)), there are no significant voids in the structure.

Project description:The title compound, [-Si(C(12)H(9))(2)OSi(CH(3))(2)O-](2), was obtained unintentionally as the product of an attempted crystallization of caesium bis-(biphenyl-2,2'-di-yl)fluoro-silicate from dimethyl-formamide. In the crystal, the mol-ecule is located on an inversion center and the siloxane ring adopts a twist-chair conformation with the two dimethyl-substituted Si atoms lying 0.7081 (5) Å out of the plane defined by the two bis-(biphenyl-2-yl)-substituted Si atoms and the four O atoms. In each Si(C(12)H(9))(2) unit, the orientation of one terminal phenyl ring relative to the phenyl-ene ring of the other biphenyl moiety suggests a parallel displaced π-π stacking inter-action [centroid distance = 4.2377 (11) Å and dihedral angle = 15.40 (9)°].
