5,6-Dioxo-1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium chloride.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(12)H(7)N(2)O(2) (+)·Cl(-), is isostructural with its bromide analogue. The compound exhibits a layered structure in which all atoms lie on a crystallographic mirror plane. N(+)-H⋯Cl(-) hydrogen bonds, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cl(-) contacts are formed within each layer. The perpendicular separation between the layers is 3.141 (1) Å.

Project description:In the structure of the title salt, C(12)H(7)N(2)O(2) (+)·CF(3)SO(3) (-), the cation participates in hydrogen bonding with the dione group of an adjacent cation as well as with the trifluoro-methane-sulfonate anion. In addition, there is an extensive network of C-H⋯O inter-actions between the cations and anions. There are two formula units per asymmetric unit. The crystal studied exhibits inversion twinning.

Project description:In the title hydrated molecular salt, C(12)H(9)N(2) (+)·C(4)H(5)O(6) (-)·2H(2)O, the cation is almost planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.014?Å); the carbon skeleton of the anion assumes a trans conformation [C-C-C-C torsion angle = -179.86?(14)°]. The carboxyl end of one hydrogen tartrate anion forms a short hydrogen bond to the carboxyl-ate end of another anion [O?O = 2.508?(2)?Å] in a head-to-tail manner, forming a chain; the chains and water mol-ecules inter-act, generating an O-H?O hydrogen-bonded layer. The cation binds to the layer by an N-H?O hydrogen bond.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, (C12H9N2)2[ZnCl4]·H2O, the two independent 1,10-phenanthrolinium cations are bridged by the water mol-ecule and the tetrahedral tetrachloridozincate anion via N-H⋯O, O-H⋯Cl and N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, forming chains along [100]. The chains are linked via C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and a number of π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances vary from 3.5594 (14) to 3.7057 (13) Å], forming a three-dimensional network. The anions are essentially planar "[maximum deviation 0.214?(1)?Å (a carboxyl O)] with the syn-related H atom of the carboxyl group, forming a short intra-molecular O-H?O(carbox-yl) hydrogen bond.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title complex, (C(12)H(9)N(2))(3)[Fe(CN)(6)]·C(2)H(5)OH·3H(2)O, consists of two half [Fe(CN)(6)](3-) anions located on inversion centers, three 1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium cations, [Hphen](+), an ethanol and three water solvent mol-ecules. The average Fe-C and C-N bond lengths are 1.942?(6) and 1.154?(3)?Å, respectively, while the Fe-C-N angles deviate slightly from linearity with values ranging from 177.8?(2) to 179.7?(2)°. The Fe(III) atoms adopt a distorted octa-hedral geometry. All the species are linked through O-H?N, N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, resulting in a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.
