5,6-Di-oxo-1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium trifluoro-methane-sulfonate.

ABSTRACT: In the structure of the title salt, C(12)H(7)N(2)O(2) (+)·CF(3)SO(3) (-), the cation participates in hydrogen bonding with the dione group of an adjacent cation as well as with the trifluoro-methane-sulfonate anion. In addition, there is an extensive network of C-H?O inter-actions between the cations and anions. There are two formula units per asymmetric unit. The crystal studied exhibits inversion twinning.

The perpendicular separation between the layers is 3.141 (1) Å.

Project description:In the structure of the title 2:1 proton-transfer compound, 2C12H8N3O2 (+)·C10H4O8 (2-), the 6-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecules act as proton sponges, accepting protons from pyromellitic acid. The -NO2 group of one of the 6-nitro-1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium cations is disordered and was refined with a site-occupancy ratio of 0.624?(15):0.376?(15). Two -COOH(-COO(-)) groups of the 2,5-di-carb-oxy-terephthalate dianion are disordered and were refined with site-occupancy ratios of 0.769?(4):0.231?(4) and 0.766?(5):0.234?(5). The -NO2 group of the second cation is also disordered about a pseudo-twofold rotation axis and was refined with a site-occupancy ratio of 0.903?(3):0.097?(3). There is an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond in the anion. The phenanthroline rings of the two cations are inclined to one another by 31.3?(1)°. In the anions, considering the major components only, the carb-oxy-lic acid groups (-COOH) are inclined to the benzene ring by 17.3?(2) and 22.3?(3)°. The carboxyl-ate groups (-COO(-)) are twisted by 9.3?(2) and 13.6?(6)° with respect to the benzene ring. In the crystal, adjacent 2,5-di-carb-oxy-terephthalate anions are linked via O-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming chains propagating along [010]. The cations are attached to the chain of anions by N-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:To aid in the elucidation of catalytic reaction mechanism of palladacycles, we found that reaction of trifluoro-methane-sulfonic acid with a phosphapalladacycle resulted in elimination of the palladium and formation of the title phospholium salt, C20H26P(+)·CF3SO3(-). Selected geometrical parameters include P-biphenyl (av.) = 1.801?(3)?Å and P-t-Bu (av.) = 1.858?(3)?Å, and significant distortion of the tetra-hedral P-atom environment with biphen-yl-P-biphenyl = 93.93?(13)° and t-Bu-P-t-Bu = 118.82?(14)°. In the crystal, weak C-H?O inter-actions lead to channels along the c axis that are occupied by CF3SO3(-) anions.

Project description:The structure of the title complex, [Ag(C(12)H(8)N(2))(C(18)H(15)P)]CF(3)SO(3), is based on a distorted trigonal-planar N(2)P coordination of the Ag(I) ion, provided by two N atoms of the bidentate phenanthroline ligand and one P atom of the triphenyl-phosphine ligand. The phenanthroline ligand and one phenyl ring of the triphenyl-phosphine ligand almost lie in one plane (maximum deviation = 0.014 Å from the best planes). The crystal structure may be stabilized by an inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bond between the phenanthroline ligand and the O atom of the trifluoro-methane-sulfonate anion.

In the crystal, a supra-molecular network structure is formed via N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds and weak C-H?O and ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.651?(6) and 3.545?(8)?Å].

The chains are linked via C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds and a number of ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances vary from 3.5594?(14) to 3.7057?(13)?Å], forming a three-dimensional network. In each 1,10-phenanthrolinium cation, there is a short N-H?N inter-action.
