A one-dimensional zigzag coordination polymer: catena-poly[[[triaqua-cadmium(II)]-[?-2,2'-(5-methyl-1,3-phenyl-enedi-oxy)diacetato-?O,O':O'',O''']] monohydrate].

ABSTRACT: In the title one-dimensional coordination polymer, {[Cd(C(11)H(10)O(6))(H(2)O)(3)]·H(2)O}(n), the 2,2'-(5-methyl-1,3-phenyl-enedi-oxy)diacetate dianions connect Cd(II) ions in a head-to-tail fashion to generate zigzag chains. The coordination geometry of the Cd atom is distorted penta-gonal bipyramidal. There are O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the carboxyl O atoms, the aqua ligands and the uncoordinated water mol-ecules.

Project description:In the title coordination complex, {[Cd(C(10)H(8)O(6))(H(2)O)(2)]·H(2)O}(n) the Cd(II) atom is seven-coordinated in a distorted penta-gonal-bipyramidal geometry, the penta-gonal plane comprising four O-atom donors from the 2,2'-(1,2-phenyl-enedi-oxy)diacetate chelate ligand together with a bridging carboxyl-ate O-atom donor, with the axial sites occupied by two water mol-ecules. The resulting helical chains extend along the b axis and are inter-connected by extensive O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, which also involve the water mol-ecule of solvation, giving a three-dimensional structure.

Project description:The structure of the polymeric title complex, {[Cd(C(6)H(6)N(2)O(6))(H(2)O)(3)]·2H(2)O}(n), consists of chains running parallel to [01] in which the oxamidato ligand, deprotonated only at the carboxyl-ate groups, acts as a bridging bis-monodentate ligand. The Cd atom and the O atom of a coordinated water mol-ecule are located on a twofold axis. The coordination geometry around the Cd atom is distorted trigonal-pyramidal. In the crystal structure, neighbouring chains are linked into a three-dimensional network by inter-chain O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds.

The diacetate and 4,4'-bipyridine ligands also lie across inversion centers. The Cu(2+) ion is six-coordinated by three water O atoms, and two N atoms and one O atom of the 2,2'-bipyridine-3,3'-dicarboxyl-ate bridging ligand in a sligthly distorted octa-hedral environment. The tridentate TDA chelates to the Ni cation in a facial configuration, and both chelating rings display the envelope conformations. The two thia-zole rings of the DABT ligand are twisted with respect to each other, making a dihedral angle of 9.96?(9)°. Extensive O-H?O, N-H?O and weak C-H?O hydrogen bonding is present in the crystal structure.
