ABSTRACT: In the structure of the title complex, [Cu(C(8)H(4)O(4))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)]·CH(4)O, the Cu(II) ion is penta-coordinated in a tetra-gonal-pyramidal geometry, with two O atoms of the 3-formyl-2-oxidobenzoate (3-formyl-salicylate) anion and two N atoms of 1,10-phenanthroline occupying the basal plane, and a water O atom located at the apical site. The structure displays O-H?O hydrogen bonding.

Project description:In the title complex, [Cu(C(2)H(2)ClO(2))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)], the Cu(II) ion is five-coordinated by two N atoms [Cu-N = 2.005 (2) and 2.029 (2) Å] from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, two O atoms [Cu-O = 1.943 (2)-1.966 (2) Å] from two 2-chloro-acetate ligands and one water mol-ecule [Cu-O = 2.253 (2) Å] in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The crystal structure exhibits inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, short Cl⋯Cl contacts [3.334 (1) Å] and π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance 3.621 (11) Å].

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ni(HCO(2))(2)(C(14)H(12)N(2))(H(2)O)]·H(2)O, contains a mononuclear complex mol-ecule hydrogen bonded to a lattice water mol-ecule. The Ni(II) atom exhibits a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry formed by the N atoms from a 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline ligand, two O atoms of a chelating formate anion, one aqua O atom and one O atom of a coordinating formate anion. The mol-ecules are assembled into chains extending along [100] through by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The supra-molecular chains are further linked into layers parallel to (011) by weak π-π packing inter-actions [centroid-centroid separation = 3.768 (2) Å]. The resulting layers are stacked to meet the requirement of close-packing patterns.

Project description:A new monoclinic polymorphic form of the title compound, [Cu(HCO(2))(2)(C(14)H(12)N(2))(H(2)O)], is described. It differs from the first ortho-rhom-bic polymorph [Pan, Lin & Zheng (2005 ▶). Z. Kristallogr. New Cryst. Struct.220, 495-496] in the deviation of the Cu atom relative to the plane of the 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmp) ligand. In the present structure, the Cu atom is shifted from the mean plane of the dmp ligand by only 0.005 (1) Å, compared with 0.318 (6) Å in the ortho-rhom-bic form. Hydrogen-bonding and π-π stacking inter-actions (mean inter-planar distance of 3.59 Å in the title compound) in the two different polymorphs are both essential to the supra-molecular assembly.

Project description:The imino-diacetate dianion in the title compound, [Zn(C(4)H(5)NO(4))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)]·1.5H(2)O, chelates to the Zn(II) center with its N and two O atoms. The metal atom is also chelated by the N-heterocycle and coordinated by one water molecule, leading to a distorted octahedral environment. The dianion, and coordinated and uncoordinated water mol-ecules inter-act through O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating a three-dimensional network. One of the two uncoordinated water mol-ecules has half-site occupancy. The crystal studied was a non-merohedral twin with a 15% twin component.

The Cu(II) ion is coordinated by two symmetry-related N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and four O atoms from two 2-bromo-acetate ligands, showing a distorted octahedral geometry. Weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions link neighbouring mol-ecules.

The cations and anions are linked by O-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds across a center of inversion, forming a hydrogen-bonded dimeric association. The dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecule is disordered over two orientations in a 0.56 (1):0.44 (1) ratio.

The crystal packing is stabilized by intra-molecular hydrogen bonding and π-π inter-actions between the dmphen rings of neighboring mol-ecules, with distances between their ring planes of 3.5670 (4) and 3.5181 (9) Å.
