ABSTRACT: The title complex, [NiCl(2)(C(15)H(24)N(6))(C(3)H(7)NO)], is isomorphous with the Co(II) analogue. Three N-atom donors from the facially coordinating triaza macrocyclic ligand, one O-atom donor from dimethyl-formamide and two Cl(-) anions surround the Ni(II) ion in a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. Inter-molecular C-H?Cl and C-H?N hydrogen-bonding inter-actions link the complex mol-ecules into a three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture.

The coordination environment around the Co(II) center could be described as a distorted octa-hedron consisting of three N donors from the facially coordinating triaza macrocyclic ligand, one O donor from dimethyl-formamide and two Cl(-) ions. Neutral complex mol-ecules are associated via inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds to form two-dimensional layers. C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are also present.

Inter-molecular non-classical C-H⋯N hydrogen bonding inter-links the [Cu(C(3)H(5)N)(3)(C(12)H(18)N(6))](2+) cations into a two-dimensional supra-molecular sheet extending along the ab plane. The crystal packing also exhibits weak C-H⋯O inter-actions.

Project description:The title tetra-cyanido-nickelate-copper complex, [Cu?Ni?(CN)?(C??H??N?)?]·4H?O, was synthesized by self-assembly using potassium tetracyanidonickelate(II) and dichlorido(1,4,7-triisopropyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane)copper(II). The asymmetric unit contains half of a complex mol-ecule and two water mol-ecules. The entire complex has -1 symmetry and contains Ni(II) in a slightly distorted square-planar and Cu(II) in a square-pyramidal coordination environment. The crystal packing shows a discrete tetra-mer water cluster. Within the cluster, the four water mol-ecules are fully coplanar and each water monomer acts both as single O-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen-bond donor and acceptor.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, [Cr(tacn)2]2[ZnCl4]3·H2O (tacn is 1,4,7-tri-aza-cyclo-nonane; C6H15N3), has been determined from synchrotron X-ray data. Each CrIII cation is coordinated by the six N atoms from the two tacn ligands, displaying a distorted octa-hedral geometry. Three distorted tetra-hedral [ZnCl4]2- anions and one lattice water mol-ecule lie outside this coordination sphere. The Cr-N bond lengths are in the range 2.0621 (11) to 2.0851 (12) Å, while the mean inner N-Cr-N bond angle is 82.51 (5)°. The crystal packing is stabilized by hydrogen-bonding inter-actions with the N-H groups of the tacn ligands and the water O-H groups acting as donors, and the O atoms of the water mol-ecules and Cl atoms of the [ZnCl4]2- anions as acceptors. Overall these contacts lead to the formation of a three-dimensional network.
