ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(25)H(18)N(2)O(6), is a naphthalenophane styled in the manner of Warrener's alicyclic cyclo-phanes or mol-ecular racks wherein a trimethyl-ene tether is perfectly staggered between the two N atoms such that the central methyl-ene H atoms point toward the naphthalene ?-system. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the two benzene rings is 7.61?(7)°.

The phenyl ring is oriented at a dihedral angle of 83.2?(1)° with respect to the pyrrole ring. In the crystal, inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. A weak C-H?? inter-action involving the phenyl ring is also found. The crystal studied was an inversion twin.

The system contains a pyrrolo-[1,2-a]azocine backbone, which was synthesized by a domino process involving a [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement. The incorporation of a chiral auxiliary (-)-menthyl, whose stereocentres are not involved during the synthesis, enables the assignation of absolute configuration. The crystal structure features O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving the hy-droxy groups as donors and the carbonyl groups as acceptors, which link the mol-ecules into chains running along [010].

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(20)H(15)N(3)O, contains two independent mol-ecules, each of which is disordered over two sets of sites corresponding to a rotation of approximately 180° of the dihydro-benzimidazoquinazoline moiety, with refined site occupancies of 0.7479 (13) and 0.2521 (12) for both mol-ecules. The pyrimidine rings are in sofa conformations. In one mol-ecule, the hy-droxy-substituted benzene ring forms dihedral angles of 83.9 (3) and 82.4 (4)° for the major and minor components, respectively, with the mean plane of the benzimidazole ring system. Project description:In the title compound, C(26)H(32)N(4), the essentially planar (r.m.s. deviations of 0.0053 and 0.0242?Å) benzimidazole fragments are trans with respect to a central ethene fragment, and are canted in opposite directions by 2.78?(6) and 5.87?(6)° with respect to the ethene plane, giving the mol-ecule a propeller conformation. The terminal ethyl fragments of the pendant n-propyl groups protrude to either side of the benzimidazole planes. Overall, the mol-ecule exhibits a pseudo-center of symmetry at the mid-point of the ethene fragment. Both ?-? stacking and typical C-H?? inter-actions are notably absent, as are inter-molecular hydrogen bonds. When viewed along the a axis, the structure appears as criss-crossed layers of mol-ecules with the planar fragments separated along the c-cell direction by the protruding ethyl groups.
