ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Zn(C(8)H(7)O(2))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))], the Zn(II) atom is coordinated by four O atoms from two chelating 4-methyl-benzoate ligands and two N atoms from a 2,2'-bipyridine ligand, displaying a disordered octahedral geometry. C-H?O hydrogen bonds connect the complex mol-ecules into a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

Project description:In the title complex, [Zn(C(7)H(5)O(3))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)], the Zn(II) ion is coordinated by two 4-hydroxy-benzoate anions, one 2,2'-bipyridine mol-ecule and one water mol-ecule and displays a distorted octa-hedral geometry. One Zn-O bond [2.5300?(15)?Å] is much longer than the others in the mol-ecule. In the crystal structure, the face-to-face separation of 3.547?(9)?Å suggests no ?-? stacking between parallel bipyridine ring systems, and an extensive O-H?O hydrogen-bonding network between the coordinated water molecule, the phenol group and carboxylate O atoms is present.

Project description:The title compound, [Cu(C(8)H(7)O(2))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)]I·0.5H(2)O, was obtained by the hydro-thermal reaction of copper(I) iodide, 4-methyl-benzoic acid and 2,2'-bipyridine. The initial reactant of Cu(I) was oxidized to Cu(II). The asymmetric unit contains two independent complex mol-ecules, two I(-) ions and one water molecule. Each Cu(II) atom is coordinated by two O atoms from a 4-methyl-benzoate ligand and four N atoms from two 2,2'-bipyridine ligands, displaying a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The structure involves O-H?I hydrogen bonds between the water mol-ecule and iodide ions and ?-? stacking inter-actions between the benzene and pyridyl rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.79?(1)?Å] and between the pyridyl rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.87?(1)?Å].

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, [Zn(2)(C(8)H(7)O(2))(4)(H(2)O)(2)]·[Zn(2)(C(8)H(7)O(2))(4)(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)(2)]·2H(2)O, consists of two kinds of dinuclear Zn(II) complexes (complex A and complex B) and uncoordinated water mol-ecules. In complex A, [Zn(2)(C(8)H(7)O(2))(4)(H(2)O)(2)], each Zn cation is chelated by a 4-methyl-benzoate (PMB) anion and coordinated by a water mol-ecule, and is further bridged by two PMB anions in a trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. In complex B, [Zn(2)(C(8)H(7)O(2))(4)(C(6)H(6)N(2)O)(2)], each Zn(II) cation is coordinated by a monodentate PMB anion and one nicotinamide (NA) ligand, and is further bridged by two PMB anions in a tetra-hedral geometry. Weak intra-mol-ecular ?-? stacking between adjacent benzene rings is observed in complex B, the centroid-centroid distance being 3.710?(2)?Å. Extensive O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonding and weak C-H?O hydrogen bonding is present in the crystal structure. The crystal studied was a racemic twin; the minor twin component refined to 38%.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {[Zn(C(7)H(7)O(2))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))]·4H(2)O}(n), contains a highly distorted octa-hedral Zn(II) metal center strongly coordinated by two N atoms of two 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy) ligands and chelated by two 4-methyl-benzoate anions. The crystallographic inversion center and glide plane present at the center of the C-C single bond of 4,4'-bipy, along with the cis coordination motif of the 4,4'-bipy, lead to one-dimensional zigzag chains. There are a large number of water mol-ecules in the crystal structure, which also form one-dimensional chains through O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

The apical site is occupied by one of the carboxyl-ate O atoms. The water mol-ecule forms intra-molecular hydrogen bonds to the uncoordinated carboxyl O atoms. The crystal studied was a nonmerohedral twin with minor components in 0.381?(3) and 0.108?(2) proportions.
