Project description:In the title complex, [CdCl(2)(C(16)H(17)N(3)O(2))], the metal atom exhibits a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal coordination geometry. O-H?O and O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds involving hydr-oxy groups and one of coordinated Cl atoms link complexes in the crystal packing. There is a ?-? stacking inter-action between adjacent 1,10-phenanthroline rings, with a distance of 3.675?(2)?Å between the centroids of the pyridine and benzene rings.

Project description:In the structure of the title salt, C(12)H(7)N(2)O(2) (+)·CF(3)SO(3) (-), the cation participates in hydrogen bonding with the dione group of an adjacent cation as well as with the trifluoro-methane-sulfonate anion. In addition, there is an extensive network of C-H?O inter-actions between the cations and anions. There are two formula units per asymmetric unit. The crystal studied exhibits inversion twinning.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title complex, (C(12)H(9)N(2))(3)[Fe(CN)(6)]·C(2)H(5)OH·3H(2)O, consists of two half [Fe(CN)(6)](3-) anions located on inversion centers, three 1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium cations, [Hphen](+), an ethanol and three water solvent mol-ecules. The average Fe-C and C-N bond lengths are 1.942?(6) and 1.154?(3)?Å, respectively, while the Fe-C-N angles deviate slightly from linearity with values ranging from 177.8?(2) to 179.7?(2)°. The Fe(III) atoms adopt a distorted octa-hedral geometry. All the species are linked through O-H?N, N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, resulting in a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

Project description:In the structure of the title 2:1 proton-transfer compound, 2C12H8N3O2 (+)·C10H4O8 (2-), the 6-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecules act as proton sponges, accepting protons from pyromellitic acid. The -NO2 group of one of the 6-nitro-1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium cations is disordered and was refined with a site-occupancy ratio of 0.624 (15):0.376 (15). Two -COOH(-COO(-)) groups of the 2,5-di-carb-oxy-terephthalate dianion are disordered and were refined with site-occupancy ratios of 0.769 (4):0.231 (4) and 0.766 (5):0.234 (5). The -NO2 group of the second cation is also disordered about a pseudo-twofold rotation axis and was refined with a site-occupancy ratio of 0.903 (3):0.097 (3). There is an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond in the anion. The phenanthroline rings of the two cations are inclined to one another by 31.3 (1)°. In the anions, considering the major components only, the carb-oxy-lic acid groups (-COOH) are inclined to the benzene ring by 17.3 (2) and 22.3 (3)°. The carboxyl-ate groups (-COO(-)) are twisted by 9.3 (2) and 13.6 (6)° with respect to the benzene ring. In the crystal, adjacent 2,5-di-carb-oxy-terephthalate anions are linked via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming chains propagating along [010]. The cations are attached to the chain of anions by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, C(12)H(7)N(2)O(2) (+)·Cl(-), is isostructural with its bromide analogue. The compound exhibits a layered structure in which all atoms lie on a crystallographic mirror plane. N(+)-H⋯Cl(-) hydrogen bonds, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cl(-) contacts are formed within each layer. The perpendicular separation between the layers is 3.141 (1) Å.

Project description:In the mononuclear title complex, [Ni(C(12)H(8)N(2)O)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](NO(3))(2), the Ni(II) ion is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The dihedral angle between the two mean planes defined by the phenanthroline ligands is 88.26?(6)°. Intra- and intermolecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the cation and the anions lead to the formation of a layered arrangement parallel to (010).

Project description:In the title hydrated molecular salt, C(12)H(9)N(2) (+)·C(4)H(5)O(6) (-)·2H(2)O, the cation is almost planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.014?Å); the carbon skeleton of the anion assumes a trans conformation [C-C-C-C torsion angle = -179.86?(14)°]. The carboxyl end of one hydrogen tartrate anion forms a short hydrogen bond to the carboxyl-ate end of another anion [O?O = 2.508?(2)?Å] in a head-to-tail manner, forming a chain; the chains and water mol-ecules inter-act, generating an O-H?O hydrogen-bonded layer. The cation binds to the layer by an N-H?O hydrogen bond.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, (C12H9N2)2[ZnCl4]·H2O, the two independent 1,10-phenanthrolinium cations are bridged by the water mol-ecule and the tetrahedral tetrachloridozincate anion via N-H⋯O, O-H⋯Cl and N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, forming chains along [100]. The chains are linked via C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds and a number of π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances vary from 3.5594 (14) to 3.7057 (13) Å], forming a three-dimensional network. In each 1,10-phenanthrolinium cation, there is a short N-H⋯N inter-action.

Azo-benzene and its derivatives have received significant attention because of their ability to be reversibly switched between the E and Z forms and so could have applications in optical memory and logic devices or as mol-ecular machines. Herein we report the formation and crystal structure of a highly unusual novel diazo-diphenanthroline compound, C24H14N6O2·2CHCl3.
