Tris(2,2'-bipyridyl-?N,N')copper(II) sulfate 7.5-hydrate.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Cu(C(10)H(8)N(2))(3)]SO(4)·7.5H(2)O, is a six-coordinate copper(II) complex with a slightly elongated octa-hedral coordination geometry. The pyridyl rings of the three bipyridyl ligands are not coplanar, making dihedral angels of 9.5?(5), 5.2?(4) and 5.8?(5)°. In the crystal, several O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions are observed due to the existance of a large number of water mol-ecules and the sulfate dianions.

Project description:In the title complex, [Cu(C(2)H(3)O(2))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)](CH(3)CH(2)OSO(3))(0.5)(CH(3)OSO(3))(0.5), the Cu(II) ion is bis-chelated by two 2,2'-bipyridine lignds and coordinated by an O atom of an acetate ligand in a CuN(4)O disorted square-pyramidal environment. In the structure, equal amounts of methyl sulfate and ethyl sulfate anions are disordered on the same crystallographic sites. The crystal structure is stabilized by weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions.

Tris(oxamide dioxime-κN,N')nickel(II) sulfate penta-hydrate.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ni(C(2)H(6)N(4)O(2))(3)]SO(4)·5H(2)O, contains two complex cations, two sulfate anions and ten lattice water mol-ecules. In both independent cations, the central Ni(II) ion adopts a distorted octa-hedral coordination involving six imino N atoms of three bidentate oxamide dioxime ligands. The bulk structure is achieved by a three-dimensional network of O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds which inter-link the ionic partners and some water mol-ecules in such a manner that the lattice framework thus formed defines channels parallel to [100]. The other water mol-ecules are lodged inside these channels. Two of the ten water mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit are disordered over three sites, in 0.356 (3):0.324 (5):0.320 (5) and 0.247 (3):0.293 (6):0.460 (6) occupancy ratios, and one O atom of a sulfate ion is also disordered over two sites, with occupancies of 0.621 (5) and 0.379 (5).

Project description:In the title compound, [Cu(C(4)H(8)NO(3))Cl(C(10)H(8)N(2))]·H(2)O, the Cu(II) atom is in a slightly distorted square-pyramidal coordination geometry with the basal plane defined by the two N atoms of the bipyridine ligand and the N and O atoms from the threoninate ion and the apical site occupied by the Cl atom. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O, O-H⋯Cl, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cl inter-actions link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. A π-π inter-action with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.461 (1) Å is also present.

Manganese(II), iron(II), cobalt(II), and copper(II) complexes of an extended inherently chiral tris-bipyridyl cage.

Project description:Manganese(II), iron(II), cobalt(II), and copper(II) derivatives of two inherently chiral, Tris(bipyridyl) cages (L and L') of type [ML]-(PF(6))(2)(solvent)(n) and [FeL'](ClO(4))(2) are reported, where L is the hexa-tertiary butyl-substituted derivative of L'. These products were obtained by using the free cage and metal template procedures; the latter involved the reductive amination of the respective Tris-dialdehyde precursor complexes of iron(II), cobalt(II), or nickel(II). Electrochemical, EPR, and NMR studies have been used to probe the nature of the individual complexes. X-ray structures of the manganese(II), iron(II), and copper(II) complexes of L and the iron(II) complex of L' are presented; these are compared with the previously reported structures of the corresponding nickel(II) complex and metal-free cage (L). In each complex the metal cation occupies the cage's central cavity and is coordinated to six nitrogens from the three bipyridyl groups. The cations [MnL](2+) and [FeL](2+) are isostructural but both exhibit a different arrangement of the bound cage to that observed in the corresponding nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes. The latter have an exo-exo arrangement of the bridgehead nitrogen lone pairs, with the metal inducing a triple helical twist that extends approximately 22 A along the axial length of each complex. In contrast, [MnL](2+) and [FeL](2+) have their terminal nitrogen lone pairs directed endo, causing a significant change in the configuration of the bound ligand. In [FeL'](2+), the cage has both bridgehead nitrogen lone pairs orientated exo. Semiempirical calculations indicate that the observed endo-endo and exo-exo arrangements are of comparable energy.

Project description:The title compound, [Cu(2)(C(2)O(4))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(4)](ClO(4))(2)·2C(3)H(7)NO·H(2)O, contains doubly charged centrosymmetric dinuclear oxalato-bridged copper(II) complex cations, perchlorate anions, and DMF and water solvate mol-ecules. In the complex cation, the oxalate ligand is coordinated in a bis-bidentate bridging mode to the Cu atoms. Each Cu atom has a distorted tetra-gonal-bipyramidal environment, being coordinated by two N atoms of the two chelating bipy ligands and two O atoms of the doubly deprotonated oxalate anion. Pairs of perchlorate anions and water mol-ecules are linked into recta-ngles by O-H⋯O bonds in which the perchlorate O atoms act as acceptors and the water mol-ecules as donors. Methyl groups of the DMF solvent molecule are disordered over two sites with occupancies of 0.453 (7):0.547 (7), and the water molecule is half-occupied.

Project description:The title compound, [Ni(SO4)(C10H8N2)2]·2.5H2O, is a nickel(II) complex with a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. The Ni(II) atom is bonded by two O atoms of the bidentate chelating sulfate ligand and the four N atoms of two chelating 2,2'-bi-pyridine ligands. The Ni-N bond lengths range from 2.059 (3) to 2.075 (3) Å and the Ni-O bond lengths are 2.098 (3) and 2.123 (3) Å. The bipyridyl ligands are both close to planar (r.m.s. deviations of 0.254 and 0.0572 Å) and are almost orthogonal, making a dihedral angle of 82.77 (1)°. In the crystal, the complex and water mol-ecules are connected by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Inter-estingly, six water mol-ecules form a chain linking two complex mol-ecules via sulfate O atoms. There are also stacking inter-actions between the aromatic rings of neighbouring 2,2'-bi-pyridine ligands with shortest non-covalent contacts of 3.268 (6), 3.393 (6) and 3.435 (5) Å. One of the three unique water molecules shows half-occupation.

Project description:In the title compound, [Cu(2)(C(6)H(8)O(4))Cl(2)(C(15)H(11)N(3))(2)]·4H(2)O, the dinuclear copper complex is located on a crystallographic inversion centre. Each Cu atom is in a distorted square-pyramidal coordination environment, with one O atom of an adipate dianion and three N atoms from the 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine ligand occupying the basal plane, and one chlorine in the apical site. In addition, there is weak Cu-O inter-action opposite of the chlorine with a distance of 2.768?(1)?Å. The adipate ligand adopts a gauche-anti-gauche conformation. The inter-stitial water mol-ecules form hydrogen-bonded tertramers that are connected to the complexes via O-H?O and O-H?Cl hydrogen bonds, thus leading to the formation of tightly hydrogen-bonded layers extending perpendicular to the b-axis direction.

The Cu(II) ion adopts a distorted octa-hedral environment, coordinated by six N atoms from three bpy ligands. The cation charge is balanced by a nitro-prusside counter-anion, which has a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. In the crystal, anions and solvent mol-ecules are involved in O-H⋯N and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, which form chains along [100]. The cations are located between these chains.

The Ni(2+) centre is chelated by three bidentate 2,2'-bi-1H-benzimidazole mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral coordination. N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds consolidate the building units into a framework structure.

Photophysical characterization of the interactions among tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) complexes ion-exchanged within zirconium phosphate.

Project description:We studied the structures, luminescence, and self-quenching properties of tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) (Ru(bpy)(3)(2+)) two-dimensional arrangements within the layers of zirconium phosphate (ZrP). The intercalation of Ru(bpy)(3)(2+) was accomplished using a hydrated form of zirconium phosphate ZrP. Varying the Ru(bpy)(3)(2+)/ZrP intercalation ratio, different Ru(bpy)(3)(2+)-exchanged ZrP loading levels were achieved. The ion exchange of Ru(bpy)(3)(2+) within ZrP produces a red shift in the metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) absorption band of the complex from 452 nm in aqueous solution to 460 nm in ZrP. Steady state luminescence spectra of the Ru(bpy)(3)(2+)-exchanged ZrP materials show an increase in the luminescence intensity with an increase in the Ru(bpy)(3)(2+) loading level until about 0.77 M, where subsequent increases in the loading level produce a decrease in the luminescence (self-quenching region). Time-resolved luminescence measurements are consistent with the steady state luminescence measurements. Analysis of the time domain luminescence measurements in loadings higher than 0.77 M leads to the determination of a collisional quenching rate constant of (1.67 +/- 0.05) x 10(6) M(-1) s(-1). Stern-Volmer analysis of the luminescence quantum yield of Ru(bpy)(3)(2+)-exchanged ZrP materials indicates that static quenching is also involved in the Ru(bpy)(3)(2+) self-quenching mechanism. The quantum yield data behavior might be explained by a model that takes into account collisional quenching and the quasi-static Perrin mechanism. The calculation yields a quenching sphere of action of 14.8 A, which is slightly larger than the collisional radii of two Ru(bpy)(3)(2+) ions (12.2 A), as predicted by the model.
