A second modification of poly[diaquadi-?-citrato(3-)-trizinc(II)].

ABSTRACT: A second modification of the zinc(II) coordination polymer with citric acid, [Zn(3)(C(6)H(5)O(7))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](n) or [Zn(citrate)(2)(H(2)O)(2)], has been synthesized under hydro-thermal conditions by reacting zinc acetate with citric acid. The structure contains two unique Zn atoms, one with a distorted octa-hedral coordination and located on an inversion centre, and one with a distorted tetra-hedral coordination. The ZnO(6) and ZnO(4) units are linked into layers extending parallel to (010).

Project description:The title compound, [Zn(3)(C(6)H(5)O(7))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](n), is a polymer in which the repeating unit contains three zinc atoms, two hepta-dentate Hcit ligands (Hcit = citric acid trianion) and two coordinated water mol-ecules, only half of which are independent due to one of the metal atoms lying on a centre of symmetry. The two independent cations both exhibit an octa-hedral geometry, but the way in which they are coordinate are different; while the Zn atom in a general position is bound to three Hcit ligands and one water mol-ecule, the one at the centre of symmetry is coordinated by six O atoms from two symmetry-related Hcit ligands through the (protonated) hydroxyl and carboxyl-ate groups. The three carboxyl-ate groups coordinate to the Zn centres in three different ways, viz. chelating, bridging and a mixture of both, in an unusual coordination mode for citrate. The result is a two-dimensional structure parallel to (010), built up by a square-grid motif. Intermolecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are present in the crystal structure.

Project description:The title compound, [CoNa(4)(C(6)H(5)O(7))(2)](n), was obtained under hydro-thermal conditions as a minor product. The Co(2+) cation is located on a crystallographic inversion center and is coordinated by six O atoms from two different citrate units, forming a [Co(C(6)H(5)O(7))(2)](4-) building unit with Co-O bond lengths between 2.0578?(17) and 2.0813?(16)?Å. The structure features two crystallographically independent Na(+) ions. The first Na(+) cation is five-coordinated by O atoms of five carboxylate groups from four different citrate anions. The second Na(+) cation is surrounded by six O atoms of five carboxylate groups from five different citrate anions. The carboxylate groups of the citrate are completely depronona-ted, the hydroxyl group, however, is not. It is coordinated to the Co(2+) cation, and through an O-H?O hydrogen bond connected to a neighboring [Co(C(6)H(5)O(7))(2)](4-) building unit. The coordination modes of the carboxyl-ate O atoms vary, with one O atom being coordinated to three different Na(+) cations, three are bridging O atoms bound to two Na(+) cations and two are connected to a Co(2+) cation and a Na(+) cation, respectively. Through these inter-connections, the basic [Co(C(6)H(5)O(7))(2)](4-) building units are linked with each other through coordination of their carboxyl-ate groups to the Na(+) cations, forming a three-dimensional framework.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title polymeric compound, [Zn(3)(C(10)H(8)O(4))(3)(C(5)H(5)N)(2)](n) or [Zn(3)(dmbdc)(3)(py)(2)](n) (dmbdc = 2,5-dimethyl-benzene-dicarboxyl-ate; py = pyridine) contains two Zn(II) ions, one of which is located on an inversion centre, one and a half 2,5-dimethyl-benzene-dicarboxyl-ate ligands and one pyridine ligand. Each ZnO(6) octa-hedron is sandwiched between two ZnO(4)N square-pyramids, forming a trinuclear zinc secondary building unit (SBU); each SBU is further linked by six 2,5-dimethyl-benzene-dicarboxyl-ate ligands with six adjacent trinuclear zinc SBU's, forming a two-dimensional layer structure with a (3,6) net. One of the three zinc ions is octa-hedrally coordinated and the other two are square-pyramidally coordinated. The coordination modes for 2,5-dimethyl-benzene-dicarboxyl-ates are bis-(bidentate) or bidentate-tridentate.

Project description:In the coordination polymer, {[Pr(C(6)H(5)O(7))(H(2)O)(2)]·H(2)O}(n), seven of the nine coordination sites of the monocapped square-anti-prismatic geometry are occupied by three O atoms of the same citrate trianion (an O atom of the hy-droxy unit and the formally single-bond O atoms from two carboxyl units). Two other coordination sites are occupied by the O atoms of a chelating carboxyl unit of another citrate; one of these atoms is additionally involved in bridging. The seventh coordination site is occupied by the O atom of the formally double-bond O atom of a neighboring citrate. The remaining two coordination sites are occupied by water mol-ecules. One of the two crystallographically unique Zn(II) atoms is four-coordinated by three N atoms of three imidazole ligands, two of which are deprotonated, and by one carboxyl-ate O atom of the demethyl-cantharate anion. The second Zn(II) atom is situated on an inversion centre and is six-coordinated by the bridging O atoms of two symmetry-related demethyl-cantharate anions and by four carboxyl-ate O atoms of the corresponding carboxyl-ate groups. The polymeric crystal structure is additionally stabilized by N-H?O hydrogen bonding between the imidazole ligands and carboxyl-ate O atoms.

Tetra-guanidinium bis-[citrato(3-)]cuprate(II) dihydrate.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (CH(6)N(3))(4)[Cu(C(6)H(5)O(7))(2)]·2H(2)O, contains one-half of a centrosymmetric Cu(II) complex anion, two guanidinium cations and a water mol-ecule. The Cu(II) ion, lying on a crystallographic inversion center, is hexa-coordinated with two citrate anions in a distorted octahedral geometry. An intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond generates an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional framework by inter-molecular N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

The ?-modification of trizinc borate phosphate, Zn(3)(BO(3))(PO(4)).

Project description:Crystals of ?-Zn(3)(BO(3))(PO(4)) have been grown by the Kyropoulos method. The asymmetric unit contains three Zn sites, three B-atom sites (all with symmetry 3), two P sites (both with m symmetry) and nine O-atom sites (four with m symmetry). The fundamental building units of the title structure are isolated BO(3) triangles and PO(4) tetra-hedra, which are bridged by ZnO(4) tetra-hedra or ZnO(5) trigonal bipyramids through common O atoms, leading to a three-dimensional framework structure. Some significant structural differences between the ?-polymorph and the ?-polymorph are discussed.

A three-dimensional framework is further strengthened via O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actons.

These trinuclear units are connected by isopthalate dianions into [Zn(3)(isophthalate)(4)](n) (2n-) anionic layers, which aggregate into the three-dimensional structure via hydrogen-bonding pathways mediated by doubly protonated 4,4'-imino-dipyridinium cations and water mol-ecules of crystallization. One solvent water mol-ecule was found to be disordered over two positions, each with a 50% site-occupancy factor.
