ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Cu(C(6)H(5)N(2)O(4))(2)], the copper(II) atom lies on an inversion centre and is in an N(2)O(2) four-coordinate environment with a nearly regular square-planar geometry. An extended network of intra-molecular O-H⋯O and inter-molecular N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds stabil-izes the crystal structure.

The conformation is stabilized by intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Inter-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains, which are further connected by inter-molecular O-H⋯O and O-H⋯N hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, forming a two-dimensional supra-molecular network parallel to (110).

The carb-oxy group links with the carboxyl-ate group of the same ligand via an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond. An extensive inter-molecular N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonded network exists in the crystal structure. One disordered lattice water mol-ecule is half-occupied and is located close to an inversion center.

The Cd(II) ion lies on a twofold axis, and is hexa-coordinated by four O atoms from water mol-ecules and carboxyl-ate groups and two N atoms from two imidazole rings, in a distorted octa-hedral arrangement. An extensive framework of N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds with the participation of coordinated and free water mol-ecules is found in the crystal structure, which contributes to the formation of a three-dimensional structure.

An intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond is also observed.

The propyl groups of the two H(2)pimda ligands are disordered each over two sites, with occupancy factors of 0.752 (5):0.248 (5) and 0.519 (7):0.481 (7). One of the water mol-ecules is half-occupied.

Strong O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between protonated and deprotonated carboxyl-ate groups occur in the mol-ecular structure. In the crystal structure extensive O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds help to stabilize the three-dimensional supra-molecular framework. The propyl groups of anions are disordered over two sites with refined occupancies of 0.768 (6):0.232 (6) and 0.642 (8):0.358 (8).
