Trans-1,2-Bis(3,5-dimethoxy-phen-yl)ethene.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(18)H(20)O(4), was prepared in high yield from 3,5-dimethoxy-styrene via a Ru-catalysed homo-olefin metathesis. Exclusive formation of the E-configurated isomer was observed. Inter-estingly, one symmetric unit contains two mol-ecules adopting an s-syn-anti and and an all-s-anti conformation.

The Co(II) atom is situated on a crystallographic center of inversion and is octa-hedrally coordinated by two O atoms from two anions, two N atoms of two 1,2-bis-(pyridin-4-yl)ethane mol-ecules and two O atoms from two water mol-ecules. A three-dimensional network is established by inter-molecular O-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, C(26)H(22)O(4), is a derivative of 1,4-bis-(phenyl-ethyn-yl)benzene substituted by four meth-oxy groups on the terminal benzene rings. The mol-ecule is almost planar with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.266?Å. The dihedral angles between the two terminal benzene rings and the central benzene ring are 7.96?(6) and 13.32?(7)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules aggregate via C-H?O inter-actions, forming mol-ecular tapes along the a axis, which aggregate to form a herring-bone structure.

Project description:X-ray analysis reveals that the title Schiff base compound, C(17)H(19)NO(3), possesses both OH and NH tautomeric character in its mol-ecular structure. The occupancies of the enol and keto tautomers are 0.62?(3) and 0.38?(3), respectively. The presence of the minor keto form could not be confirmed from the IR spectrum. The mol-ecule is approximately planar, the dihedral angle between the planes of the two aromatic rings being 6.97?(8)°. The mol-ecular structure of the major component is stabilized by an intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond, which generates an S(6) ring motif (N-H?O hydrogen bond in the minor component).
