Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {(C(9)H(14)N)(3)[CdCl(5)]}(n), comprises three 2,4,6-trimethyl-aniline dications and one half of the [Cd(2)Cl(10)](6-) anion. The Cd atoms are each coordinated by six Cl atoms, with octa-hedra linked by bridging, apical Cl atoms, forming linear chains running parallel to the a axis. The trimethylanilinium cations form stacks between the chains of CdCl(6) octa-hedra.

Project description:In the title salt, C(26)H(29)N(2) (+)·Br(-), which may serve as a precursor for N-heterocyclic carbenes, the imidazolidine ring adopts a twist conformation with a pseudo-twofold axis passing through the N-C-N carbon and the opposite C-C bond. The N-C-N bond angle [113.0?(4)°] and C-N bond lengths [1.313?(6) and 1.305?(6)?Å] confirm the existence of strong resonance in this part of the mol-ecule. In the crystal, a C-H?Br inter-action is present. Inter-molecular N-H?Br hydrogen bonds occur in the crystal structure. Two zigzag chains of C(2) (1)(4) motifs extend along the b-axis direction. These primary chain motifs inter-sect like a double helix structure, leading to R(6) (3)(12) ring motifs, which are arranged in tandem along the b axis. Hence, hydro-philic layers are generated at z = 1/4 and 3/4, which are sandwiched between alternate hydro-phobic layers across z = 0 and 1/2.
