Catena-Poly[[aqua-(1,10-phenanthroline)cobalt(II)]-?-4,4'-(propane-1,3-diyldi-oxy)dibenzoato].

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Co(C(17)H(14)O(6))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)](n), the Co(II) atom is coordinated by a monodentate 4,4'-(propane-1,3-diyldi-oxy)dibenzoate (cpp) dianion, a water mol-ecule and a chelating 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligand. A symmetry-generated cpp ligand completes the CoN(2)O(3) trigonal-bipyramidal geometry for the metal ion, with the N atoms occupying both equatorial and axial sites. The bridging cpp ligands form chains propagating in [110] and O-H?O hydrogen bonds consolidate the packing.

The Mn(2+) cation exhibits a distorted penta-gonal-bipyramidal MnN(2)O(5) coordination sphere with the water O atom and one of the phenanthroline N atoms in the axial positions. The cation is bridged by the doubly deprotonated 4,4'-[(4-carb--oxy-benz-yl)nitrilo]-dibenzoate ligand, generating a polymeric chain parallel to [100]. O-H?O hydrogen bonding, as well as ?-? inter-actions between neighbouring phenanthroline ligands, with centroid-centroid distances of 3.695?(1)?Å, lead to the construction of a three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the title compound, [Co(C(14)H(8)O(5))(C(12)H(8)N(2))](n), the Co(II) atom is six-coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry by four O atoms from two chelating carboxyl-ate groups from different 2,4'-oxydibenzoate anions and by two N atoms from a 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligand. The two benzene rings of the 2,4'-oxydibenzoate ligand form a dihedral angle of 77.14?(16)°. Adjacent Co(II) atoms are bridged by 2,4'-oxydibenzoate anions to form a helical chain that propagates along the b-axis direction. Neighboring chains are further assembled by inter-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions between inversion-related phen ligands [centroid-to-centroid distance = 4.0869?(8)?Å] to form a two-dimensional supra-molecular architecture.

Project description:The title compound, [Co(SO(4))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)]·C(3)H(8)O(2), was obtained unexpectedly as a by-product during an attempt to synthesize a mixed-ligand complex of Co(II) with 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and melamine via a solvothermal reaction. The Co(II) metal ions are in a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment formed by four N atoms from two chelating phen ligands and two O atoms from a bidentate sulfate ligand. The two chelating N(2)C(2) groups are almost perpendicular to each other [dihedral angle = 80.06?(8)°]. A twofold rotation axis passes through the Co and S atoms, and also through the central C atom of the propane-1,3-diol solvent mol-ecule. Inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds help to stabilize the structure.

The uncoordinated O atom of the hippuric acid anion is involved in an intra-molecular hydrogen bond to the coordinated water mol-ecule. Project description:The title salt, [K(2)(C(16)H(12)O(6))](n), was obtained by the reaction of 1,2-bis-[4-(ethyl-carbox-yl)-phenox-yl]ethane with KOH in water. The anion lies on a crystallographic inversion center, which is located at the mid-point of the central C-C bond. The K(+) cation is coordinated by six O atoms, two from the chelating carboxyl-ate group of the anion and four from four neighboring and monodentately binding anions, giving rise to an irregular [KO(6)] coordination polyhedron. The coordination mode of the cation leads to the formation of K/O layers parallel to (100). These layers are linked by the nearly coplanar anions (r.m.s. deviation of 0.064?Å of the carboxyl, aryl and O-CH(2) groups from the least-squares plane) into a three-dimentional network.

The cobalt(II) atom exhibits a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry provided by two N atoms from two 1,3-bis-(4-pyrid-yl)propane ligands and the O atoms from four water mol-ecules. The dihedral angle between the pyridine rings in the ligand is 86.14 (11)°, whereas the dihedral angle formed by the symmetry-related benzene rings in the anion is 35.81 (12)°. In the crystal, cations, anions and water mol-ecules are linked into layers parallel to the ac plane by O-H⋯O and O-H⋯N hydrogen-bond inter-actions. The layers are further connected into a three-dimensional network by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

The Co(II) atom has a distorted octa-hedral geometry with the basal plane occupied by two 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione N atoms and two aqua O atoms, with the other two aqua ligands in axial positions. The aqua ligands are involved in extensive hydrogen bonding to nitrate and 1,10-phenanthroline-5,6-dione O atoms.

The geometry about the Zn(II) atom is a distorted octa-hedron. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are connected by classical O-H?O hydrogen bonds, weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds and C-H?? inter-actions, forming a three dimensional network. ?-? stacking is also observed between aromatic rings of adjacent mol-ecules, centroid-centroid distances are 3.753?(2), 3.5429?(16) and 3.5695?(17)?Å.
