Project description:The title compound, [Al(H(2)O)(6)](CH(3)SO(3))(3) (common name: aluminium methane-sulfonate hexa-hydrate), was crystallized from an aqueous solution prepared by the precipitation reaction of aluminium sulfate and barium methane-sulfonate. Its crystal structure is the first of the boron group methane-sulfonates to be determined. The characteristic building block is a centrosymmetric unit containing two hexa-aqua-aluminium cations that are connected to each other by two O atoms of the -SO(3) groups in an O-H?O?H-O sequence. Further O-H?O hydrogen bonding links these blocks in orthogonal directions - along [010] forming a double chain array, along [10-1] forming a layered arrangement of parallel chains and along [101] forming a three-dimensional network. As indicated by the O?O distances of 2.600?(3)-2.715?(3)?Å, the hydrogen bonds are from medium-strong to strong. A further structural feature is the arrangement of two and four methyl groups, respectively, establishing 'hydro-phobic islands' of different size, all positioned in a layer-like region perpendicular to [101]. The only other building block within this region is one of the -SO(3) groups giving a local connection between the hydro-philic structural regions on both sides of the 'hydro-phobic' one. Thermal analysis indicates that a stepwise dehydration process starts at about 413?K and proceeds via the respective penta- and dihydrate until the compound completely decomposes at about 688?K.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, (C(6)H(11)N(2))(3)[EuBr(6)], consists of 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium cations and centrosymmetric octa-hedral hexa-bromido-europate anions. The [EuBr(6)](3-) anions are located at the corners and face-centres of the monoclinic unit cell. Characteristic hydrogen-bonding inter-actions can be observed between the bromide anions and the acidic H atoms of the imidazolium cations.

Project description:The title compound, [Co(N(3))(3)(C(16)H(14)N(4))], was synthesized by hydro-thermal reaction of [Co(NH(3))(6)](NO(3))(3), NaN(3) and tris-(2-pyrid-yl)methyl-amine. The structure contains two independent complexes in the asymmetric unit, with closely comparable geometry. The Co(III) atoms are hexa-coordinated by three N atoms from the tridentate tris-(2-pyrid-yl)methyl-amine ligands and three azide ions in a fac arrangement. N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds are formed between the amino group and the uncoordinated terminal N atoms of the azide ligands.

Project description:The title complex, [Al(2)(CH(3))(4)(C(13)H(10)N(3)O)(2)], is dimeric, bridged through the O atoms of the phenolate anions. The asymmetric unit contains one half of the mol-ecule and there is a crystallographic inversion centre in this mol-ecule. Each Al atom is penta-coordinated by one N atom and two bridging O atoms of two N,O-bidentate benzotriazolylphenolate ligands and by two C atoms from two methyl groups, forming a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal environment.

Crystal structure of [(1,2,3,4,11,12-?)-anthracene]tris-(tri-methyl-stann-yl)cobalt(III).

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title structure, [Co(?(6)-C14H10){Sn(CH3)3}3], contains two independent mol-ecules. Each anthracene ligand is ?(6)-coordinating to a Co(III) cation and is nearly planar [fold angles of 5.4?(3) and 9.7?(3)°], as would be expected for its behaving almost entirely as a donor to a high-oxidation-state metal center. The slight fold in each anthracene ligand gives rise to slightly longer Co-C bond lengths to the ring junction carbon atoms than to the other four. Each Co(III) cation is further coordinated by three Sn(CH3)3 ligands, giving each mol-ecule a three-legged piano-stool geometry. In each of the two independent mol-ecules, the trio of SnMe3 ligands are modeled as disordered over two positions, rotated by approximately 30%, such that the C atoms nearly overlap. In one mol-ecule, the disorder ratio refined to 0.9365?(8):0.0635?(8), while that for the other refined to 0.9686?(8):0.0314?(8). The mol-ecules are well separated, and thus no significant inter-molecular inter-actions are observed. The compound is of inter-est as the first structure report of an ?(6)-anthracene cobalt(III) complex.

Project description:In the title hybrid salt, (C7H11N2)3[Cr(C2O4)3]·4H2O, the central Cr(III) ion of the complex anion (point group symmetry 2) is coordinated by six O atoms from three chelating oxalate(2-) ligands in a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination sphere. The Cr-O bond lengths vary from 1.9577?(11) to 1.9804?(11)?Å, while the chelate O-Cr-O angles range from 82.11?(6) to 93.41?(5)°. The 4-(di-methyl-amino)-pyridinium cations (one situated in a general position and one on a twofold rotation axis) are protonated at the pyridine N atoms. In the crystal, N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the cations and anions into a three-dimensional network. ?-? inter-actions between the pyridine rings of adjacent cations provide additional stabilization of the crystal packing, with the closest centroid-to-centroid distances being 3.541?(1) and 3.575?(1)?Å.
