The mirror plane, which coincides with the Cu-O(water) bond, imposes disorder of the atoms of the ethyl-ene group. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link complex mol-ecules into extended chains along [100].

The Fe(III) ion is chelated by the N,N,O,O-tetra-dentate Schiff base dianion, resulting in an FeN(2)O(3) square-based pyramid, with the two N atoms in the basal plane.

Project description:In the title compound, [Cu(C(19)H(18)Br(2)N(2)O(2))], the Cu(II) ion is in a tetra-hedrally distorted planar geometry, involving two N and two O atoms from the tetra-dentate Schiff base ligand. Inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds form an eight-membered R(2) (2)(8) motif. The dihedral angle betwen two benzene rings is 36.34 (9)°. There are inter-molecular Cu⋯Br [3.4566 (5) Å] and Cu⋯·N [3.569 (3) Å] contacts, which are significantly shorter than the sum of van der Waals radii of the relevant atoms. These inter-actions, along with the inter-molecular C-H⋯π and π-π [centroid-centroid distances of 3.709 (1) and 3.968 (2) Å] inter-actions, link neighbouring mol-ecules into a one-dimensional infinite chain along the c axis.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ni(2)(C(16)H(14)N(2)O(2))(2)], contains an Ni(II) cation which is coordinated by two imine N atoms and by two phenolate O atoms of the salen ligand {salen = N,N'-bis-(salicyl-idene)ethane-1,2-diamine or 2,2'-[ethane-1,2-diyl-bis(nitrilo-methyl-idyne)]diphenol}, leading to a distorted square-planar conformation. When a secondary Ni-O inter-action > 2.41 Å to the neighbouring phenolate O atom is considered, two mol-ecules are linked into a centrosymmetric dimer with an overall square-pyramidal coordination for the Ni(II) cation. Weak π-π inter-actions with a shortest interplanar distance of 3.704 Å help to stabilize the crystal structure.

The Cu(II) ion has a nearly square-planar geometry, being coordinated by two N atoms and two O atoms. The two chemically equivalent halves of the mol-ecule are crystallographically independent. One of the carboxylic acid methyl ester units is located in the main plane of the mol-ecule and the other is rotated by 65.3 (5)° with respect to this unit. In the crystal structure, there are π-π stacking inter-actions between adjacent six-membered chelate rings, with centroid-to-centroid distances of 3.602 (2) Å.

The tetra-dentate Schiff base accommodates the Mn(III) ion at the centre of a nearly planar square. The axial positions are occupied by a monodentate carboxyl-ate group and a water mol-ecule. Adjacent monomers inter-act through hydrogen bonding between the noncoordinated C=O group of the carboxyl-ate and the coordinated water mol-ecule to produce chains extending parallel to the b axis.

There is a slight twist in the two benzene rings at each end of the complex [dihedral angle = 11.11?(5)°]. All the atoms of the meth-oxy substitutents are in the plane of the ring to which they are attached except for one which deviates slightly [0.365?(3)?Å]. In the crystal, weak C-H?O inter-molecular inter-actions connect the mol-ecules.
