μ-Oxido-bis-({4,4'-dibromo-2,2'-ethane-1,2-diylbis(nitrilo-methyl-idyne)]diphenolato}iron(III)).

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Fe(2)(C(16)H(12)Br(2)N(2)O(2))(2)O], the complete mol-ecule is generated by twofold symmetry, with the bridging O atom, which links the iron centres, lying on the roatation rotation axis. The Fe(III) ion is chelated by the N,N,O,O-tetra-dentate Schiff base dianion, resulting in an FeN(2)O(3) square-based pyramid, with the two N atoms in the basal plane.

The mirror plane, which coincides with the Cu-O(water) bond, imposes disorder of the atoms of the ethyl-ene group. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link complex mol-ecules into extended chains along [100].

Project description:The reported structure is a monoclinic polymorph of the title compound, [Mn(2)(C(16)H(14)N(2)O(2))(2)(NCS)(2)], which has been characterized previously in an ortho-rhom-bic form. Each Mn(III) atom is chelated by a tetra-dentate 2,2'-[ethane-1,2-diylbis(nitrilo-methyl-idyne)]diphenolate ligand and by the N atom of a thio-cyanate anion, in a square-pyramidal arrangement. The complexes form centrosymmetric dimers, with an Mn-O contact of 2.557 (3) Å trans to each thio-cyanate anion, completing a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry.

When a secondary Ni-O inter-action > 2.41?Å to the neighbouring phenolate O atom is considered, two mol-ecules are linked into a centrosymmetric dimer with an overall square-pyramidal coordination for the Ni(II) cation.
