Project description:The metal center in the structure of the title compound, [Eu(NCS)(3)(C(15)H(15)NO(2))(3)], is coordinated by three Schiff base 2-meth-oxy-6-[(4-methyl-phen-yl)iminiometh-yl]phenolate (L) ligands and three independent thio-cyanate ions. In the crystal structure, the acidic H atom is located on the Schiff base N atom and hydrogen bonded to the phenolate O atom. The coordination environment of the Eu(III) ion is nine-coordinate by three chelating methoxy-phenolate pairs of O atoms and three N-atom terminals of the thio-cyanate ions. The compound is isostructural with the Ce(III) analogue [Liu et al. (2009 ?). Acta Cryst. E65, m650].

Project description:In the title compound, [La(NCS)(3)(C(15)H(15)NO(2))(3)], the metal centre is nine-coordinated by six O atoms from three zwitterionic Schiff base 2-meth-oxy-6-[(4-methyl-phen-yl)iminio-meth-yl]phenolate (L) ligands and three terminal N atoms of the thio-cyanate ions in a monocapped square-anti-prismatic environment. The L ligands chelate the La(III) ion with strong La-O(deprotonated phenolic) bonds [2.435 (3)-2.464 (3) Å] and significantly longer La-O(meth-oxy) bonds [2.801 (3)-2.831 (3) Å]. The La-N bond lengths range from 2.541 (4) to 2.605 (4) Å.

Project description:The title Schiff base, C(11)H(14)ClNO(4), originally refined as a neutral mol-ecule [Chumakov, Antosyak, Mazus, Tsapkov & Samus (2000), Crystallogr. Rep.45, 945-950], is inter-preted as a zwitterionic compound. There are two independent zwitterions in the asymmetric unit. Five of the six hydr-oxy groups of the -CH(2)OH fragments are disordered. In one zwitterion, two are disordered over three sites [0.53 (1):0.33 (1):0.14 (1) and 0.65 (1):0.18 (1):0.17 (1)] and the third over two sites [0.66 (1):0.34 (1)]. In the second zwitterion, two are disordered over two sites [0.84 (1):0.16 (1) and 0.83 (1):0.17 (1)] and the third hydr-oxy group is ordered.

Intrinsic Buffer Hydroxyl Radical Dosimetry Using Tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane.

Project description:Fast photochemical oxidation of proteins (FPOP) is a powerful covalent labeling tool that uses hydroxyl radicals generated by laser flash photolysis of hydrogen peroxide to footprint protein surfaces. Because radical production varies with many experimental parameters, hydroxyl radical dosimeters have been introduced to track the effective radical dosage experienced by the protein analyte. FPOP experiments performed using adenine optical radical dosimetry containing protein in Tris buffer demonstrated unusual dosimetry behavior. We have investigated the behavior of Tris under oxidative conditions in detail. We find that Tris can act as a novel gain-of-signal optical hydroxyl radical dosimeter in FPOP experiments. This new dosimeter is also amenable to inline real-time monitoring, thereby allowing real-time adjustments to compensate for differences in samples for their quenching ability.

In the crystal, the cation links to the adjacent picrate anions via N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds; one of independent acetonitrile solvent mol-ecules is also linked to the cation via an N-H⋯N hydrogen bond.

Project description:The crystal structure of title compound, [Yb(NO(3))(3)(C(15)H(15)NO(2))(2)]·H(2)O, contains two Schiff base 2-[(4-methyl-phen-yl)imino-meth-yl]-6-methoxy-phenol (HL) ligands, three independent nitrate ions that chelate to the ytterbium(III) ion in an O,O'-bidentate manner and an uncoordinated water mol-ecule. The coordination number of the Yb(III) ion is eight. The HL ligands chelate with a strong Yb-O(phenolate) bond and a weak Yb-O(meth-oxy) contact. The latter augments the coordination polyhedron to give a YbO(10) bicapped square antiprism. Classical inter-molecular O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds as well as weak C-H?O contacts contribute to the stability of the structure.

The latter can be inter-preted as the apices of the bicapped square-anti-prismatic [HoO(10)] polyhedron. Inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds occur. Intra-molecular O-H?O inter-actions link the complex mol-ecules and uncoordinated water mol-ecules.

Tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane induces conformational change and crystal-packing contraction of porcine pancreatic elastase.

Project description:Porcine pancreatic elastase (PPE) was crystallized under new sulfate-free conditions containing 0.3 M NaCl and 50 mM tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane-HCl at pH 7.0. The crystal structure determined at 1.5 angstroms resolution had a unique conformation in four regions which contained loop portions. A chloride ion was bound near the catalytic triad instead of the sulfate ion in PDB entry 1qnj, a typical PPE crystal structure. However, the chloride ion did not affect the configuration of the catalytic triad. A tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (Tris) molecule was bound to the S4 and S5 subsites in place of the adjacent molecule in the 1qnj crystal and played a significant role in the structural change of the region. The distortion in this region may subsequently have induced conformational changes in the other three regions. The fact that Tris and these four regions make a diagonal line in the ac plane may have affected the crystal-packing contraction along the a and c axes in the crystal compared with the typical crystal.

Ti(IV)-Tris(phenolate) Catalyst Systems for the Ring-Opening Copolymerization of Cyclohexene Oxide and Carbon Dioxide.

Project description:Titanium(IV) complexes of amino-tris(phenolate) ligands (LTiX, X = chloride, isopropoxide) together with bis(triphenylphosphine)iminium chloride (PPNCl) are active catalyst systems for the ring-opening copolymerization of carbon dioxide and cyclohexene oxide. They show moderate activity, with turnover frequency values of ∼60 h-1 (0.02 mol % of catalyst, 80 °C, 40 bar of CO2) and high selectivity (carbonate linkages >90%), but their absolute performances are lower than those of the most active Ti(IV) catalyst systems. The reactions proceed with linear evolution of polycarbonate (PCHC) molar mass with epoxide conversion, consistent with controlled polymerizations, and evolve bimodal molar mass distributions of PCHC (up to M n = 42 kg mol-1). The stoichiometric reaction between [LTiO i Pr] and tetraphenylphosphonium chloride, PPh4Cl, allows isolation of the putative catalytic intermediate [LTi(O i Pr)Cl]-, which is characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The anionic titanium complex [LTi(OR)Cl]- is proposed as a model for the propagating alkoxide intermediates in the catalytic cycle.
