ABSTRACT: The molecule of the title compound, C(26)H(34)Br(2)N(2), lies on a crystallographic inversion center and hence the two imine groups are s-trans. The dihedral angle between the central 1,4-diaza-buta-1,3-diene unit and the attached substituted phenyl ring is 88.4?(7)°. The structure features a C-H?N close contact. The crystal selected for this study proved to be a non-merohedral twin with a minor component of 21.8?(3)%.

Project description:The title compound, C(27)H(38)N(2), is the first reported free imidazolidin-2-yl-idene carbene with 2,6-diisopropyl-phenyl groups in the 1,3-positions. The five-membered ring adopts a twisted conformation and the dihedral angle between the aromatic rings is 48.81 (6)°. Both isopropyl groups attached to one of the benzene rings are disordered over two sets of sites in 0.74 (2):0.26 (2) and 0.599 (8):0.401 (8) ratios.

Project description:The title compound, C(27)H(39)N(2) (+)·C(24)H(20)B(-)·2CH(2)Cl(2), is the first reported imidazolidinium cation with the sterically demanding 2,6-diisopropyl-phenyl groups in the 1,3-positions. The crystal structure is stabilized by weak inter-molecular C-H??(arene) inter-actions. Due to the bulky nature of both the flanking 2,6-diisopropyl-phenyl substituents and the tetra-phenyl-borate counter-ion, anion inter-actions with the imidazolidinium H atom in the 2-position are not observed, also a first for this class of ortho-alkyl-substituted Arduengo-type carbene precursors.
