ABSTRACT: In the title molecular salt, C(16)H(36)N(+)·C(12)H(20)BS(3) (-), three of the four n-butyl chains show a trans conformation, whereas the fourth has the C-C-C-C torsion angle in a gauche conformation [-77.8?(5)°]. In the crystal, mol-ecules are packed in layers parallel to the (101) plane.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, [Ru(C(10)H(15))(C(13)H(10)O)](C(24)H(20)B), consists of discrete [Cp*Ru(II)benzophenone] cations and tetra-phenyl-borate anions (Cp* = penta-methyl-cyclo-penta-dien-yl). Tethering the Cp*Ru group to one aryl ring of benzophenone results in average values of 1.42?(1) and 1.38?(1)?Å for the C-C bond lengths in the Ru-tethered and untethered phenyl rings, respectively. The dihedral angle between the benzene and phenyl rings of the benzophenone group is 50.5?(1)°.

Project description:The title compound, (C(16)H(36)N)(3)[Th(NCS)(4)(NO(3))(3)], was obtained from the reaction of Th(NO(3))(4)·5H(2)O with (Bu(4)N)(NCS). The Th(IV) atom is in a ten-coordinate environment of irregular geometry, being bound to the N atoms of the four thio-cyanate ions and to three bidentate nitrate ions. The average Th-N and Th-O bond lengths are 2.481?(10) and 2.57?(3)?Å, respectively.

In the cation, the non-H atoms of the butan-2-one group are approximately planar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.056?Å) and lie nearly perpendicular to the plane of the phenyl ring with a dihedral angle between the two planes of 69.3?(1)°. The central C atom is bonded to the three N atoms in a nearly ideal trigonal-planar geometry [N-C-N angles = 119.51?(8), 119.81?(9) and 120.69?(8)°] and the positive charge is delocalized in the CN3 plane. The bond lengths between the N atoms and the terminal methyl groups all have values close to a typical single bond [1.4597?(12)-1.4695?(13)?Å]. The average Ru-C distance to the penta-methyl-cyclo-penta-dienyl (Cp*) group is 2.19?(3)?Å, and 2.21?(1)?Å to the ortho, meta and para C atoms of the arene ring. The Ru-C(ipso) bond length of 2.272?(3)?Å is significantly longer, reflecting movement of the Ru atom away from the C atoms with electronegative substituents attached. The amide H atom in the cation forms an inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bond with the carbonyl O atom of the acetone solvent mol-ecule. A C-H?O inter-action also occurs.
