ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Mn(C(8)H(9)N(2)O(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·2C(3)H(7)NO, the Mn(II) atom, lying on an inversion centre, is six-coordinated by two N,O-bidentate 5-carb-oxy-2-propyl-1H-imidazole-4-carb-oxyl-ate ligands and two water mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral environment. In the crystal structure, the complex mol-ecules and dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecules are linked by N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds into a two-dimensional supra-molecular network parallel to (001).

Two N atoms and two O atoms from two H(2)pimda (H(3)pimda is 2-propyl-1H-4,5-dicarb-oxy-lic acid) ligands are in the equatorial plane. The axial positions are occupied by two O atoms from two water mol-ecules. A two-dimensional supra-molecular network parallel to (001) is constructed by N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds. An intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond is also observed.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Zn(C(8)H(9)N(2)O(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·2C(3)H(7)NO, the Zn(II) atom is coordinated by two N,O-bidentate 2-propyl-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxyl-ate anions and two water mol-ecules in a distorted octa-hedral environment. The asymmetric unit consists of one Zn(II) atom located on a center of inversion as well as one anion, one water mol-ecule and one additional dimethyl-formamide mol-ecule that occupy general positions. Between the carboxyl and the carboxyl-ate group an intra-molecular hydrogen bond is found in which the hydroxy H atom is disordered. Disorder is also found for the H atoms of one of the three methyl groups. In the crystal structure, additional inter-molecular N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding is found.

In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link neighboring mol-ecules, generating a two-dimensional framework containing eight-membered H(4)O(4) rings. In addition, the dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecules are hydrogen bonded to the two-dimensional framework via the NH groups of the H(2)MIDA(-) ligands.

The propyl groups of H(2)pimda(-) are disordered over two sets of sites with refined occupancies of 0.759 (5):0.241 (5) and 0.545 (7):0.455 (7).

Project description:There are two crystallographically independent complex mol-ecules with very similar geometries in the unit cell of the title compound, [Mn(C(6)H(4)NO(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·0.5C(3)H(7)NO. The central ion is situated in a distorted octa-hedral environment of two N- and four O-donor atoms from two pyridine-2-carboxyl-ate ligands and two cis-disposed water mol-ecules. The carboxyl-ate ligands are coordinated in a chelate fashion with the formation of two five-membered rings. In the crystal, the complex mol-ecules are connected by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water mol-ecules and the uncoordinated carboxyl-ate O atoms, thus forming hydrogen-bonded walls disposed perpendicularly to the bc plane.
