Sodium terbium(III) polyphosphate.

ABSTRACT: Single crystals of the title compound, NaTb(PO(3))(4), were obtained by solid-state reaction. This compound belongs to type II of long-chain polyphosphates with the general formula A(I)B(III)(PO(3))(4). It is isotypic with the NaNd(PO(3))(4) and NaEr(PO(3))(4) homologues. The crystal structure is built up of infinite crenelated chains of corner-sharing PO(4) tetra-hedra with a repeating unit of four tetra-hedra. These chains, extending parallel to [100], are linked by isolated TbO(8) square anti-prisms, forming a three-dimensional framework. The Na(+) ions are located in channels running along [010] and are surrounded by six oxygen atoms in a distorted octa-hedral environment within a cut-off distance <2.9?Å.

Project description:Single crystals of KTb(C(2)O(4))(SO(4))(H(2)O), potassium aqua-terbium(III) oxalate sulfate, were obtained under hydro-thermal conditions. In the crystal structure, the Tb(III) atom is coordinated by four O atoms from two oxalate anions, three O atoms from three sulfate anions and one O atom from a water mol-ecule within a TbO(8) distorted square antiprismatic coordination. The potassium and terbium(III) atoms are bridged by the oxalate and sulfate groups, forming a three-dimensional structure. The coordination mode of the oxalate has not yet been reported. O-H?O hydrogen bonding between the water molecules and the oxygen atoms of oxalate and sulfate anions is also observed.

Terbium(III) hydrogendiphosphate(V) tetra-hydrate.

Project description:The Tb atom of the title compound, TbHP(2)O(7)·4H(2)O, is coordinated by the O atoms of three symmetrically independent water mol-ecules and by five O atoms belonging to HP(2)O(7) (-) groups. The TbO(8) polyhedra are inter-connected by the diphospate anions, forming a three-dimensional network which is additionally stabilized by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding between water mol-ecules and O atoms of the HP(2)O(7) (-) anions. Uncoordinated water mol-ecules are situated in channels and are connected via hydrogen bonds with the framework.

Silver europium(III) polyphosphate.

Project description:Europium(III) silver polyphosphate, AgEu(PO(3))(4), was prepared by the flux method. The atomic arrangement is built up by infinite (PO(3))(n) chains (periodicity of 4) extending along the c axis. These chains are joined to each other by EuO(8) dodeca-hedra. The Ag(+) cations are located in the voids of this arrangement and are surrounded by five oxygen atoms in a distorted [4+1] coordination.

Terbium(III) Luminescence-Based Assay for Esterase Activity.

Project description:Esterases catalyze the hydrolysis of esters to form a carboxylic acid and alcohol. These enzymes play a key role in both the detoxification of xenobiotic compounds and the metabolism of drugs and prodrugs. Numerous fluorogenic probes have been developed to monitor esterase activity. Most are based on an aromatic alcohol, and the others are based on an aromatic acid. These restrictions leave unexplored the specificity of esterases for aliphatic esters. Here, we report on the use of esters of thiopheneacetic acid coupled with the luminescence of terbium(III) as the basis for a continuous assay of esterase activity. This probe allows for a wide variation of the alcohol moiety and the detection of its hydrolysis at submicromolar concentrations. The assay verifies steady-state kinetic parameters for catalysis by pig liver esterase from either initial rates or the integration of progress curves, and its utility is evident with unpurified esterases in bacterial and human cell lysates.

Green Fluorescent Terbium (III) Complex Doped Silica Nanoparticles.

Project description:The low photostability of conventional organic dyes and the toxicity of cadmium-based luminescent quantum dots have prompted the development of novel probes for in vitro and in vivo labelling. Here, a new fluorescent lanthanide probe based on silica nanoparticles is fabricated and investigated for optically traceable in vitro translocator protein (TSPO) targeting. The targeting and detection of TSPO receptor, overexpressed in several pathological states, including neurodegenerative diseases and cancers, may provide valuable information for the early diagnosis and therapy of human disorders. Green fluorescent terbium(III)-calix[4]arene derivative complexes are encapsulated within silica nanoparticles and surface functionalized amine groups are conjugated with selective TSPO ligands based on a 2-phenylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine acetamide structure containing derivatizable carboxylic groups. The photophysical properties of the terbium complex, promising for biological labelling, are demonstrated to be successfully conveyed to the realized nanoarchitectures. In addition, the high degree of biocompatibility, assessed by cell viability assay and the selectivity towards TSPO mitochondrial membrane receptors, proven by subcellular fractional studies, highlight targeting potential of this nanostructure for in vitro labelling of mitochondria.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {[Tb(C(8)H(2)NO(6))(H(2)O)(3)]·H(2)O}(n), contains one Tb(III) ion, one pyridine-2,4,6-tricarboxyl-ate (ptc) anion, three aqua ligands and one lattice water mol-ecule. The Tb(III) ion is nine coordinated by one N and five O atoms from three ptc ligands and by three O atoms from the three aqua ligands in a distorted bicapped trigonal-prismatic geometry. The ptc ligands bridge the Tb(III) ions into a two-dimensional polymeric framework parallel to (100). An extensive O-H?O hydrogen-bonding network consolidates the crystal packing.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title complex, [Tb(C(6)H(4)NO(2))(C(2)O(4))(H(2)O)(2)](n), the Tb(III) cation is coordinated by four O atoms from two oxalate ligands, two O atoms from two isonicotinate ligands and two O atoms from water mol-ecules within a distorted square-anti-prismatic coordination. The Tb(III) cation, the isonicotinate anion and the two crystallographically independent water mol-ecules occupy general positions, whereas one of the two crystallographically independent oxalate anions is located on a center of inversion, and the second oxalate anion is located on a twofold rotation axis. The Tb(III) cations are linked by the oxalate and isonicotinate anions into layers, which are connected via inter-molecular hydrogen-bonding and π-π stacking [with centroid-to-centroid distances of 3.509 (2) and 3.343 (3) Å] inter-actions into a three-dimensional network.

One of the two crystallographically independent oxalate anions is located on a center of inversion, whereas the second is located on the twofold rotation axis. The carboxyl-ate groups of the inic and oxalate anions link the terbium metal centres into layers. These layers are connected by O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonding into a three-dimensional network.

Variable Dimensionality of Europium(III) and Terbium(III) Coordination Compounds with a Flexible Hexacarboxylate Ligand.

Project description:A reaction between 4,4',4″-(benzene-1,3,5-triyltris(oxy))triphthalic acid (H6L) and lanthanide(III) nitrates (Ln = Eu3+, Tb3+) in water under the same conditions gave a molecular coordination compound [Tb(H4.5L)2(H2O)5]∙6H2O in the case of terbium(III) and a one-dimensional linear coordination polymer {[Eu2(H3L)2(H2O)6]∙8H2O}n in the case of europium(III). The crystal structures of both compounds were established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and they were further characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and infrared spectroscopy. The compounds demonstrated characteristic lanthanide-centered photoluminescence. The lanthanide-dependent dimensionality of the synthesized compounds, which are the first examples of the coordination compounds of hexacarboxylic acid H6L demonstrates its potential as a linker for new coordination polymers.
