ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(13)H(15)N(2) (+)·Cl(-)·H(2)O, the ions and water mol-ecules are -connected by N-H⋯Cl, O-H⋯Cl, NH⋯Cl⋯HO, NH⋯Cl⋯HN and OH⋯Cl⋯HO inter-actions, forming discrete D(2) and D(2) (1)(3) chains, C(2) (1)(6) chains and R(4) (2)(8) rings, leading to a neutral two-dimensional network. The crystal structure is further stabilized by π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.652 (11) Å].

Between dimers, single N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are formed between the other N-H group of each pyrimidine ring and the hydroxyl groups. The water mol-ecules accept O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds from the hydroxyl groups and donate hydrogen bonds to the ester groups.

The most obvious difference between the mol-ecules is the torsion angles between the isoxazole ring and the benzene and phenyl rings [47.0?(2)/56.4?(2) and 33.3?(2)/11.0?(2)°, respectively]. Another important difference is observed in the rotation of the nitro group with respect to the phenyl groups [3.5?(6) and 31.1?(6)°]. The pyrrolidinone fragment is cis oriented with respect to the 4-nitro-phenyl fragment.
