ABSTRACT: The full mol-ecule of the title compound, C(12)H(10)Cl(2)N(2)S(2), is generated by the application of a centre of inversion. The thio-phene and imine residues are co-planar [the N-C-C-S torsion angle is -2.5?(4)°] and the conformation about the imine bond [1.268?(4)?Å] is E. Supra-molecular arrays are formed in the bc plane via C-Cl?? inter-actions and these stack along the a axis.

Project description:Two independent half-mol-ecules, each being completed by inversion symmetry, comprise the asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(14)H(16)N(2)S(2). The major difference between the mol-ecules is found in the central C-C bond [the C-N-C-C torsion angles are 114.66?(18) and 128.94?(18)° in the two mol-ecules]. The thio-phene and imine groups are almost co-planar in each case [S-C-C-N torsion angles = -6.9?(2) and -3.6?(2)°]. In the crystal, the mol-ecules aggregate into supra-molecular chains via C-H?? inter-actions.

A kink in the mol-ecule is evident [C-N-C-C torsion angle = -147.0?(3)°] owing to the twist in the central ethyl-ene bridge. Further, there is a small twist between the imine [N=C = 1.267?(3)?Å] and quinoline residues [N-C-C-C = -12.4?(4)°]. In the crystal, a combination of ?-? [pyridine-benzene centroid-centroid distance = 3.5670?(14)?Å] and C-H?N contacts leads to supra-molecular chains propagating in [010].

The imino groups are coplanar with the aromatic rings. Within the mol-ecule, the planar units are parallel, but extend in opposite directions from the dimethyl-ene bridge. An inter-esting feature of the crystal structure is the short inter-molecular Cl?F [3.1747?(5)?Å] inter-actions, which are shorter than the sum of the van der Waals radii of these atoms. Project description:The title mononuclear zinc(II) complex, [Zn(C(10)H(15)N(3))(2)](ClO(4))(2), was obtained by the reaction of 2-acetyl-pyridine, N-methyl-ethane-1,2-diamine and zinc perchlorate in methanol. The asymmetric unit of the complex contains two independent [Zn(C(10)H(15)N(3))(2)](2+) cations and four perchlorate anions. The Zn(II) atom in each complex cation is six-coordinated by two pyridine N, two imine N and two amine N atoms from two N-methyl-N'-[1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl-idene]ethane-1,2-diamine Schiff base ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The pyridine rings in each of the complex cations are approximately perpendicular to each other, making dihedral angles of 88.4?(3) and 87.9?(3)°. The perchlorate anions are linked to the complex cations through N-H?O hydrogen bonds.
