ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(14)H(9)Cl(2)N(3)O(3), was prepared by the reaction of 3-nitro-benzohydrazide with 2,4-dichloro-benzalde-hyde. The mol-ecule adopts an E configuration about the C=N bond. The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 4.6?(2)°. In the crystal, the hydrazone mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming chains along the c axis.

In the crystal, O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link adjacent mol-ecules into layers parallel to (101). These layers are further connected into a three-dimensional network via C-H⋯O inter-actions.
