Bis[2,6-bis-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)pyridinium] di-μ-bromido-bis-[dibromidocuprate(II)].

ABSTRACT: The title salt, (C(19)H(18)NO(2))(2)[Cu(2)Br(6)], was obtained from an attempt to synthesize the copper(II) complex of 2,6-bis-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)pyridine (L) from a reaction between CuBr(2) and one equivalent of L in CH(2)Cl(2) at room temperature. The resulting compound is the salt of the 2,6-bis-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)pyridinium cation and 0.5 equivalents of a hexa-bromido-dicuprate(II) dianion. Both meth-oxy groups of the cationic pyridinium moiety are directed towards the N atom of the pyridine ring as a result of intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The centrosymmetric hexabromidodicuprate dianion possesses a distorted tetra-hedral geometry at the copper ion. The Cu-Br bond lengths are 2.3385 (7) and 2.3304 (7) Å for the terminal bromides, whereas the bond length between the Cu atom and two bridging bromides is slightly longer [2.4451 (6) Å].

Project description:The title mol-ecule, C18H16O2S2, reveals crystallographic twofold rotation symmetry (with both S atoms lying on the axis) and one half-mol-ecule defines an asymmetric unit. The dithiine ring is in a boat conformation. The aromatic ring and the C=C bond are nearly coplanar, with small torsion angles of -171.26?(19) and 8.5?(3)°. The two S-C bond lengths [1.7391?(19) and 1.7795?(18)?Å] are shorter than single C-S bonds and longer than analogous C=S double bonds, which indicates a certain degree of conjugation between the lone pair on the S atom and ? electrons of the C=C bond. The crystal packing only features van der Waals inter-actions.

Project description:In the title compound, C20H25NO5, the di-hydro-pyridine ring adopts a flattened boat conformation. The meth-oxy-phenyl ring is almost perpendicular to the mean plane of the pyridine ring [dihedral angle = 88.42?(3)°]. The two carbonyl units adopt a synperiplanar conformation with respect to the double bonds in the di-hydro-pyridine ring. In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected by N-H?O hydrogen bonds into R 4 (4)(24) tetra-meric rings. A region of disordered electron density, located at the center of four adjacent mol-ecules, was treated with the SQUEEZE routine in PLATON [Spek (2009 ?). Acta Cryst. D65, 148-155]. It is probably the result of traces of the solvent of crystallization and was not taken into account during the structure refinement.
