ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(29)H(24)N(4)O(4)S(3), the two N-tosyl-benzimidazolyl unit are connected through a -S-CH(2)- fragment, the dihedral angle between the benzimidazole rings being 76.09?(5)°. The methyl-thio group is disordered with respect to exchange of the S and C atoms in a 0.547?(4):0.453?(4) ratio. In the crystal, C-H?O and C-H?? inter-actions connect adjacent mol-ecules into infinite layers parallel to the ab plane. The crystal packing is further stabilized by a ?-? inter-action [centroid-centroid separation = 3.5187?(4)?Å].

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(27)H(36)N(4), contains two independent mol-ecules. Except for the atoms of the decyl chain, the non-H atoms of each mol-ecule are approximately coplanar (r.m.s. deviations = 0.075 and 0.164?Å) and the -CH(2)CH(2)CH(2)- link connecting the two benzimidazolyl fused-ring systems is slightly opened up at the middle C atom. The decyl substituent adopts an extended zigzag conformation in both mol-ecules. In the crystal, adjacent mol-ecules inter-act by N-H?N hydrogen bonds, generating a chain parallel to the c axis.

Project description:The title compound, 0.75C(15)H(14)N(2)O·0.25C(15)H(14)N(2)O, is a co-crystal of 2-methyl-6-(6-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)phenol as the major component and 2-methyl-6-(5-methyl-1H-benz-imidazol-2-yl)phenol as the minor component. The refined site-occupancy ratio is 0.746?(4)/0.254?(4). The conformations of both components are identical except for that of the methyl substituent on the benzene ring of the benzimidazole unit which is positionally disordered over two positions. The mol-ecule is essentially planar, the dihedral angle between the benzimidazole plane and the benzene ring being 3.49?(4)°. An intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bond generates an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal packing, mol-ecules are linked through N-H?O hydrogen bonds into chains along [201]. These chains are stacked approximately along the a-axis direction. The crystal packing is further stabilized by weak N-H?O and O?H?N hydrogen bonds, together with weak inter-molecular C-H?? inter-actions. A ?-? inter-action with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.6241?(6)?Å is also observed between the substituted phenyl ring and that of the benzimidazole system.

The oxindole residue is almost perpendicular to the benzimidazole residue, making a dihedral angle of 89.2 (1)°. The methyl-substituted benzene ring is oriented at angles of 47.7 (1) and 71.0 (1)°, respectively, with respect to the oxindole and benzimidazole residues. An intra-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bond is observed. In the crystal, mol-ecules associate via N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming R(2) (2)(9) dimers.

Project description:The title compound, C(22)H(20)N(2), crystallizes with two independent mol-ecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. The benzimidazole units are almost planar [maximum deviations = 0.0161 (8) Å for A and 0.0276 (8) Å for B]. The dihedral angles between the benzimidazole unit and the benzene rings of the 4-methyl-benzyl and 4-methyl-phenyl groups are 76.64 (3) and 46.87 (4)°, respectively, in mol-ecule A. The corresponding values in mol-ecule B are 86.31 (2) and 39.14 (4)°. The dihedral angles between the planes of the two benzene rings are 73.73 (3) and 80.69 (4)° in mol-ecules A and B, respectively. Pairs of weak inter-molecular C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds link B mol-ecules, forming centrosymmetric dimers with R(2) (2)(8) ring motifs. There are no significant corresponding inter-actions involving the A mol-ecules.
