The anion is a six-coordinated complex with a distorted CuN(2)O(4) octa-hedral geometry around the Cu(II) ion. N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds along with π-π contacts between the pyridine rings of the (2a4mpH)(+) cations [centroid-centroid distance = 3.573 (2) Å] stabilize the crystal structure.

The dihedral angles between the carboxyl groups and the adjacent benzene rings are 8.52 (22) and 5.10 (14)°. In the crystal structure, extensive inter-molecular O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds stabilize the three-dimensional supra-molecular network. Intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the carboxyl groups are also observed. The propyl groups of the two H(2)pimda ligands are disordered each over two sites, with occupancy factors of 0.752 (5):0.248 (5) and 0.519 (7):0.481 (7). One of the water mol-ecules is half-occupied.
