ABSTRACT: In the mononuclear title complex, [Ag(C(10)H(6)N(4))(2)]PF(6), two ?(2)N,N'-chelating 5-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazine-2-carbonitrile ligands surround the Ag(I) atom, forming a distorted N(4) tetra-hedral coordination geometry. The mononuclear units are inter-connected through ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.801?(2) and 3.979?(3)?Å] and the hexa-fluoridophosphate anions are embedded within the inter-stices. C N?? inter-actions [N?centroid = 3.519?(2)?Å] and C-H.?N hydrogen-bonding inter-actions also occur.

Project description:In the mononuclear title complex, [Ag(C(10)H(6)N(4))(2)]ClO(4), the Ag(I) ion is surrounded by two 5-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazine-2-carbonitrile ligands, forming a considerably distorted square-planar N(4)-coordination geometry, with two short and two long Ag-N distances. Each perchlorate anion links two mononuclear coordination units through C-H?O(perchlorate) hydrogen bonding, forming an infinite tape structure along [110]. Inter-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions between adjacent pyridine and pyrazine rings [centroid-centroid distances of 3.777?(3) and 3.879?(2)?Å] further assemble the tape motifs into a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

Project description:In the asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ag(C(10)H(6)N(4))(2)(CF(3)CO(2))], there two mononuclear but slightly different complex units. In each, two κ(2)N:N-chelating 5-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazine-2-carbonitrile ligands surround the Ag(I) atom, giving an N(4)O square-pyramidal coordination geometry with one trifluoro-acetate O atom at the apex. The difference between the two lies in the Ag-N bond lengths: in one complex, three normal [range 2.272 (5)-2.552 (5) Å] and one long [2.706 (4) Å] and in the second, two normal [2.254 (5) and 2.290 (5) Å] and two long [2.647 (5) and 2.675 (5) Å] are present. Short inter-molecular F⋯F contacts [2.586 (4) Å] and weak π-π stacking inter-actions [minimum ring centroid separation 3.836 (5) Å] between pyridyl and pyrazinyl rings connect the complex units, forming columns which extend along the b-axis direction.

The Re(I) ion is coordinated by two N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand and one N atom from the 1,2-bis-(pyridin-4-yl)ethane ligand [mean Re-N = 2.191?(15)?Å] and by three carbonyl ligands [mean Re-C = 1.926?(3)?Å] in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The electrostatic forces and weak C-H?F(O) hydrogen bonds pack cations and anions into the crystal with voids of 82?Å(3), which are filled by solvent mol-ecules. The crystal packing exhibits short inter-molecular O?O distance of 2.795?(5)?Å between two cations related by inversion.

This complex is more distorted than the closely related ruthenium complex containing a pyridine-2-thiol-ate ligand [Santra et al. (1997 ?). J. Chem. Soc. Dalton Trans. pp. 1387-1393]. The distortion is caused by the difference in size between the O and S atoms. The benzene solvent mol-ecule is situated on a twofold rotation axis.
