Zinc-finger nucleases (ZFNs) typically consist of three to four zinc fingers (ZFs) and the non-specific DNA-cleavage domain of the restriction endonuclease FokI. In this configuration, the ZFs constitute the binding module and the FokI domain the cleavage module.
