ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Co(C(12)H(9)O(2))(2)(C(4)H(6)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)], the Co(II) ion is located on an inversion centre and displays a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. Two O atoms from two water mol-ecules and two carboxyl-ate O atoms from two 2-(naphthalen-1-yl)acetate ligands are in the equatorial plane and two N atoms from two 1-methyl-1H-imidazole ligands are in the axial positions. The structure is stabilized by intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds. Inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the complex mol-ecules into chains along [100].

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Cu(C(12)H(9)O(2))(2)(C(4)H(6)N(2))(2)], the Cu(II) cations are square-planar coordinated by two 1-naphthyl-acetate anions and two 2-methyl-imidazole ligands into discrete complexes that are located on centres of inversion. These complexes are linked into chains parallel to [010] by inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonding between the N-H H atom of the 2-methyl-imidazole ligands and the carboxyl-ate O atoms that are not involved in metal coordination.

The contribution of the electron density associated with the disordered water molecules was not considerd in the final structure model.

In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link neighboring mol-ecules, generating a two-dimensional framework containing eight-membered H(4)O(4) rings. In addition, the dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecules are hydrogen bonded to the two-dimensional framework via the NH groups of the H(2)MIDA(-) ligands.
